@faol0mhor yes please to the lyrics! I am also trying to find the sheet music for this version there is a version sung a capella by Jean Redpath that is hauntingly gorgeous also. I wish I knew how to post it!
@littlejazzjr11 Boys of the Lough did it on "Prairie Home Companion" USA public radio program one christmas season recently, Cathal McConnell singing it in all English. Search for that program and when you find their web site, search for "Christ Child Lulluby" and you'll get the audio.
p.s. If you live in the UK, or if you don't mind paying international shipping, the CD is available at amazon.co.uk. Search Music for "Celtic Christmas" and look for the green angel cover. The entire CD is just as achingly lovely as this number, which is track 1.
@hirschbichl6 I searched this CD on that site and just to verify: this CD has an angel with hands in prayer on the cover and Celtic Christmas in curved letters? Thanks for the help.
@Vin3281 That's the one. There are actually two covers. Crimson alternates them each year. The green angel is one, and the other is a watercolor painting of a cabin at sunset. But they're the same CD. If you look at my videos, there's another one from the same CD, "Rocking."
This is indeed Mairi MacInnes (Scots Gaelic) and Mae McKenna (English). It's on William Jackson's CD "Celtic Christmas" CD (Crimson Productions Ltd, 1997). Despite the same title, this is prob not the CD you have, since it has 12 vocal tracks out of 22.
This could possibly be Mae McKenna and Mairi MacInnes. Does your CD have a title? Maybe it could be looked up from that title and we could find more info on it?
@Vin3281 Sadly, it only has the title of "Celtic Christmas" and then just the names of the tracks. There's two tracks where there are vocals, this being one of them, while the rest are just instrumental, and other than that, there's no real information. Whoever made the cover went the cheap way or got lazy, which is a shame really.
I really want to find the sheet music for this arrangement. Can never find this one! This is the only reference to this one I have ever found on the internet. I live it so much. Only have the words written down. Now to learn the pronunciations!
@Sazza6 Do you know who it is that does this? This is the only version I have heard that mixes Gaelic and English. I would like to find out the artist that performs this and to get a copy of it if possible. The sheetmusic to this would be a plus also.
@Vin3281 I know who the arrangement was by, but that didn't get me too far. My copy came from a CD called "Celtic Christmas" (which is, I think, where most people have got it from) and it didn't give much info. I am thinking of finding out who published the CD and emailing them for info. I will get back to you all with how far I get with that one!
@Sazza6 Thanks for your help. I want to record an arrangement of this song myself and I am searching out the various versions of this song that are here and elsewhere. There is also an excellent version by a woman named Amy White on a cd called Winter Tidings at alandamydotcom
@Sazza6 This version was published by 'Mill Music' and arranged by William Jackson, who seems to do a lot of 'celtic' arrangements as he crops up on another cd I have. Its being sung by Mae McKenna and Mairi Macinnes. Praps u cld do some research from that?? It is stunning I agree
@Sazza6 These are aural people, the melody is ancient. Find someone with ears who knows how to draw pictures for you of the sounds. Ask them to listen and record.

@faol0mhor Do it, especially if you can include the Gaelic verses. Are the English verses ranslations of the preceding Gaelic ones?

yeah, further to below - William Jackson is the harpist, a very well known Scottish harpist, specialising in Irish folk.

@KSClaw I believe this could be Kathy Mattea. I heard a version of this on Amazon.com and it sounds identical to this one.

@Sazza6 I wish I could help you, but I sadly don't have any of that information available.

@KSClaw You already have the information, from the comments. I have this cd too. Now you could write stuff in the video discription and title.
