@Flamorgan, True i do agree with your point and do absolutly believe politics were to blame, however in sure the goverment did look at the option of constructing in Belfast, the problem is BAE dont own that yard and it was BAE who got the contract.
@Flamorgan, Its not exactly buzzin with activity though and building turbines is nothing like building modern ships, it would require huge modernisation and a major regeneration efforts to build the QE class supercarriers there. I would have to ask when and why those cranes were being used and remind you that ship repair is nothing like ship construction, which of course Belfasts H&W yard is large enough for.
@Flamorgan, Those cranes are old and the ship yard not what you can call "cutting edge" considering its mostly closed. Plus i think the English are already pissed that Scotland (who seems to want to go independent) gets most of the naval work as it is, considering over 95% of the defence budget is funded by England. Dont think it would be appreciated if NI took what little work remains. Personally i would have modernised Belfast and used it for final assembly.
Brilliant video. We've linked to it from local community websites s1rosyth and s1northqueensferry so that people who live round here can see this. Let us know if you do anything else like this!
