Well I can't remember how you get in there, but I guess it's after Old Lorenzo's Bossfight. Try opening the door of his room (where you fight him the first, you see his room in the cutscene) with tha key which you obtain after the bossfight.

Hope it works like this, I can't remember it exactly, sorry.

Ah, I thought it might be of interest to you that if you play on normal mode and have the fairy earrings on, during the Riccardo fight, you can knock him down and while he's unconscious, go to the walls and crouch. You'll be invisible when he comes to and he'll run in circles looking for you.
