@rambo7276 ND football has had a claimed streak of mediocrity since 1993. Do you realize that national powers like Ohio St, Alabama, Texas, have all had droughts as well? Some were 30+ years. Miami's was 57 years. They were solid for a decade, then reemerged, then fizzled out again, lastly falling to who; an injury plagued Irish team on the rise. People fail to realize that ND was a top 5 team multiple years last decade even though they couldn't pull out bowl win, that's not mediocrity.

It's the way they played the game, and their poor attitudes and the way they conducted themselves on the football field that earned them that monicker. Showboating, running their mouths, their names on their jerseys at a time in CFB when it was not common to see it, their excessive display of poor sportsmanship after plays were over, they dealt cheap shots, and running up scores.

Thug "U" also derived from the crowds antics, peeing on ND football players entering the field through the tunnel. Pretty tastful, huh? That crap would get you kicked out of ND stadium in a heartbeat. Scumbags through and through, and it tickles me to know ND owns the last 2 victories (one a bowl victory) over the bad guys. Yes, it's a different era of CFB, but fans of any sport don't let things like that be forgotten because it's a source of motivation to beat their ass again and again.

When your coach allows you to do stupid things on the field, and encourage ignorant behavior on national television, yes, you're damn right it makes them ALL "thugs" and "convicts". Especially when the school doesn't publicly denounce those kinds of acts to separate itself from the idiots that represent them on the field.

There has been a history of priests abducting children, not parishioners. You cannot pin those acts on all Catholics, because neither parishioners or the church condone those acts, and DO publicly denounce them. BTW, it's a sport and that's what sports fans do. This fight was a setup. The opponent had fought twice in three years. Both times he was knocked out. Tommy Z admits he was a marginal pro prospect. If he becomes a starter in the NFL he is much better off anyway.
