Soda can is not a good pot. I made one out of a stew can with many holes with a Sterno can inside it. Used a 1.4 Liter stainless steel bowl for the pot. It still is a prototype need a smaller pot. I am no longer buying aluminum pots. Stainless steel will last a lifetime. Am going to make a smaller stove out of a soup can. Am experimenting with 3 fuels. Isopropal alcohal 91, Sterno and denatured alcohal. Am getting varying burn times from the different fuels. All 3 fuels are economical #1 is alco
I like the thought except for one thing. Granted you say for emergency use and free, but a word of caution. Soft drink and other cans are coated inside during manufacture to resist the acid in the drink from eating the can. I suppose the coating will burn off in time.
