Eventually, our hero in the field finally stepped down and co-founded the White Oak Dance Project with many other dancers. Well, he had a good run.

Many in their 40s and 50s - all run under no director, but as a democracy. Baryshnikov says that he is in great physical condition, but one day he will step down from dancing completely.

But let us all pray... he will never give up the ballet... may he die with his toe shoes on..

This choreographic miniature was one in the series of others, inspired by sculptures of Rodin and choreographed by Leonid Jacobson (one of the brightest Soviet choreographers of the XX century). it was filmed in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg)

actually female ballet dancers of TODAY would consider her too heavy. Check out what NYCB and Bolshoi etc. have as their primes these days. This girl actually looks healthy. Nowadays ballet dancers are emaciated...this young lady is actually more the ideal ballet dancer from my point of view...athletic and lean but i don't count vertebrae...she probably could carry a baby, you know, fertile. I really hate what ballet has become about these days.

@enoebel A ballet dancer friend once said that the craze for skinny female dancers who looked like half-starved models was mostly American. This Russian woman truly had a beautiful body. I remember in the '70s seeing the Panovs when they first came to America. I was amazed at how beautifully full-figured the woman was compared, even then, to skinny American dancers.
