  • Your on a low budget and you go to maplin ? -_-

  • I could watch Ashens scoot a disc around on a table for hours.

  • The used games section of GAME is full of terrible condition cases; I've never understood it.

  • There is a trick to repair or brake a disc by using toothpaste. I have rapaired a few scratched CD's this way.

  • I don't have one broken ps3 game and never had and I have 4 ye old games

  • They still sell alot of games used of a gamestop shelf

  • Try cleaning the disc with Vaseline, it worked for me. Google, Remove Scratches from a CD/DVD with Vaseline (is on Instructables)

  • Scratches never happen to VCR and game cards, disk suck!

  • @ianhobbs97 VCR cassettes died slow deaths of magnetic domain degradation and went all snowy and oddly colored the more you watched them. Not sure that's really much of an improvement :)

  • Hmmm the way Ashens voiced Melbin makes me think if he watched yugioh abridged...

  • Ah Space Channel 7, good times, good times.

  • Local dumbfucks at my Gamestop aren't even worth the hellhole they work at. They're rude, disrespectful, arrogant assholes. Exactly why i switched over to Play N Trade because they actually give 2 fucks about you and your games :)

  • If it's a Atlus game it lasts 3 days

  • I use toothpaste ;/

  • most game shops clean preowned discs before they sell them

  • "Black Bean" excellent ashens, truly excellent.

  • @Anon6655321 Are you Chef Excellence?

  • @awatki8 Excellent reference.

  • Legend. 2:05

  • Ha if you buy games from me that I bought new I can promise you the only scratches you see are the lightest of light. I don't know why it's hard to put them back in the case

  • It's 50p more th have it cleaned at blockbuster

  • I have been looking for a device like that ProCare machine for 2 yrs I got one from GameStop once with a different brand name...but was exactly the same as the one you showed...and it worked MIRACLES for my son's game discs. I was told such devices were no longer made. I am SO glad to see one in your video!!! I now have hope of finding one...and have a brand name to search for!!! I am Ebay or Amazon bound!!!! Thanks! Love your videos!!!

  • Even if you're not putting them back in the case right away and set them aside, you should at least be smart enough to leave the data side up, so that it only collects dust, and not scratches.

  • @OoBrosephStalinoO Actually, no.

Since a DVD consists of a transparent plasticky disc and a thin, vaguely magical film containing the information, you would be better off putting the plastic side down. This way, there would be less risk of ruining the tiny grooves on the information-layer-thingy (notice my highly scientific language).

  • @TheTheEyeCreature Actually disc's informaion is put on in a very, very thin thread-like thingy. (My tech language is the greatest either.)

  • I know your pain Ashens. My games are otherwise in great shape other than the stupid pricks who leave them out before we purchase them. I've gotten some per-owned disks that were not only scratched to bloody hell but for SOME reason had the center rims CRACKED! Has anyone around the depths of youtube ever gotten disks second-hand that are chipped or cracked around the center.

  • Ashen: What DVD-Writer do you have in your PC? Mine died this morning and I'm looking for something decent.

    Funny vids as always!

  • I have something like the first disk cleaner, works pretty well.

  • Isn't Mel B. a Spice Girl...?

  • Comment removed

  • couldn't you just put the disk upside down so that its wont scratch

  • @bobbynews1 Only if you don't stack something nearby. Most people leave many things laying around and really don't pay that much attention.

  • That Black Bean part made me laugh so loud i woke up my parents.

  • From his channel it says Optical Media Laceration Extravag...

  • 2:10 LOLOLOLOL! Owned, bitch :D

  • I thought everyone just had all their discs ripped onto their PC by now.

  • Comment removed

  • i had one of those eletric disk cleaners and i use it and it started smoking and scared the shit out of me with the sound it made>

  • People do take care but my brother has an xbox and it's so shit that it scratches the discs up horribly. Not even the Wii uses a disc tray lol!

  • I still have resident evil 3 for the ps1, tried everything to make it work, still doesnt, will go to the game station and check it out if it can get fixed there, thanks for the info.

  • I bought a second-hand copy of Just Cause 2 and the case was covered in caramel. I can't believe the disc actually functions.

  • I might spend money on one of these when someone can prove they can change a none working disc back into a working one. Making an already working disc look a bit cleaner is not worth spending money on.

  • cod b ops on xbox for me gets a strage scratch in the midle twice perfect circle

  • Putting and not putting disc away properly seems to be a gender thing, like opening jars and knowing the offside rule. Me and my Dad always do it, my mum and my sister never do it, even though I tell them contently what will happen if you don't put it away properly.

  • @buc555 In my case, it seems to be more of an issue of age. I keep CD's and DVD's in their correct casings. But my mom will leave them out, and my stepdad will do every wrong thing under the sun. I routinely find disks in the wrong case, double-stacked or left out of the case. A few times I even found one with three CD's stacked on top of each other. Drives me absolutely batty.

  • I keep my Halo games at the front, on top of the 360, not in cases, so it's one simple grab to get them. Not a scratch, even with them faced up. (Anniversary needed a small clean to work today though, after that it worked perfectly)

  • fuck optical media it may hold more memory but they scratch to easily. cartridges and vhs tapes ftw!

  • Solution - Buy a PS3. Blu-Rays have great scratch resistance :D

  • Why is there a porn video in the related videos?

  • @pooman2278 Why not?

  • @pooman2278 .... I have a colonoscopy video in related... Drew the short straw?

  • Watching you move the disc around on the table at 6:08 is comforting for some strange reason.

    Interesting.

Book and music exchange in my area has one of those professional cleaners.

  • I want cartridges back! They looked awesome and today we could make cartridges that don't break, and have loads of memory / flash memory. Next console should go back to that, you could always see what game was in your console, it was awesome. N64 was the last big console that did it and they shouldn't have changed it.

  • @MichelDeCoeyer That's a terrible idea.

  • @junkietomato Not really. The only advantages discs have now are that they're far cheaper to produce. Cartridges/flash memory can hold more data (there are SDXC cards that can hold up to 2 TB of data, compared to a dual layer blu-ray disc that holds 50GB), have faster read times (remember how we didn't see nasty load times until disc based systems or add-ons started coming out), and are more durable than discs (no need to worry about scratching or a case).

  • The only problem is that the cost advantage is a huge one in disc's favor. Games would have to be far more expensive to cover the cost of the tech. Publishers don't want that and consumers don't want that. So discs it is.

  • @MichelDeCoeyer Unfortunately, they probably wouldn't do that. See, game manufacturers want to squeeze every last penny out of their income, and optical media is their best bet for physical storage because they are so inexpensive. With cartridges, they would have to get ROM chips to store the game and plastic casing to store the ROM chips, among other components.

It's quite sad, because cartridges were very durable and awesome-looking.

  • @MichelDeCoeyer sony finally came to senses and realized they a far better than disks, so vita is on cartridges now :)

  • @MichelDeCoeyer if there are cartridges, then it will be harder for the game to break, thus u cant rebuy it, so the companies will NEVER do it lol

  • @MichelDeCoeyer Me want :D

  • @MichelDeCoeyer If they did do that, prices would almost double!

bak in the n64 games days the cartridges costed about 5-10 dollars to make while the cd's costed about 45 cents....

So if you want to pay Shit loads more for a game(psvita much :P)Thats your own business.

  • @MichelDeCoeyer

And that's how nintendo lost final fantasy 7. T.T

  • @MichelDeCoeyer Ps vita is your macine =)

  • @MichelDeCoeyer What about the DS? That had cartridges. Sure they're really small, but they're still cartridges.

  • @kyon813

I think they look like SD cards :]

  • @MichelDeCoeyer

It is much more cost effective to manufacture disks. 25 4.7 GB cost around $10. One 32 GB flash drive costs around $20 ($40 if it uses USB 3). They are also much cheaper than the old ROM cartridges that old games were on. Games would cost more than they do now if they were on cartridges and would be a terrible business decision on the part of the business if they did so again. It is fine for low-memory portable games like on the DS, but costs too much for large console games.

  • Screw any kit, get yourself some Brasso, give it a wipe down and bob's your uncle

  • well if you have an xbox 360, all you need to do is put the disk in the console.... it scratches it for you

  • Watching those disks is more entertaining than most POP station games. You can usually make out more detail, too.

  • Maybe the new scratches the cleaner put on is supposed to distract the cd/dvd player from the giant divots?

  • @peachy6969 Ingenious logic!

  • Finally someone else thinks its completely stupid why second hand games are always well fucked up.

  • There is a problem with the Xbox that if you move it while playing a game, the disc scratches and becomes unplayable.

  • @morales8697 But if you install the disc, it stops spinning after a few seconds, and it will not scratch it. Ther ya go!

  • @morales8697 I personally call that a problem with idiots moving their consoles while the consoles are trying to read a disc. What intelligent human being ever does that?! Consoles are designed for sitting there not being moved, not being picked up and walked around with like a portable CD player or laptop. Leave the 360 alone when you're playing it and you won't have any problems. They even put a sticker on the disc drive that tells you that when you buy one.

  • no matter how many times you show us the disks......we still can't see any difference from any of the disks

  • "It's too scratched mate :("

    Haha xD

  • i bought to used xbox 360 games the other day and there were absolutely no scartches on them

  • only an imbecile would leave discs around considering the wallet busting prices on games nowadays.

  • Instead of asking about game shop DVDs, go to your local library and check something out. That stuff is RAW especially with feature films.

  • Why is the British game shop scene so fucking TERRIBLE?

  • best way of getting rid of scratches is not buying them at all, inside downloading them :)

  • Discs for games are boring... the cartridges had a whole mistery to them... even the UMD things, but DVD and Blu Ray all look like a boring usual CD... and soon will die D:

  • Damn you Ashens. Now I want some lemonade.

  • Just use tissue and water it works trust me

  • @GamingLegendOJR That can fuck up your console.

  • @RDV333 yeah you dry it and it works every time

  • I've actually got one of these xD

  • also, ROFL the CSI joke killed me, Love ya ashens!

  • Can't believe he never tried the Karate Kid disc in the 99p cleaner. Would have been hilarious if it worked.

  • I lost at "her black bean" HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

  • lol i can take discs to my local video rental store family video and they have disc buffer machine that removes scratches

  • put a lot of xerapol on those pads and run twice. That should do the job.

  • TRY CLEANING THE TOP OF THE DISK ASWWELL AS THE BOTTOM, IT WORKED FOR ME A FEW TIMES

  • haha lemonade

  • When I was a kid I had all my PS1 discs randomly scattered on my bare concrete basement floor, and I was a total fuck headed idiot for doing so.

  • @FrumpyShakes I think we are all guilty of PS1 disc abuse.

  • Still thinking which person would be retarded enough to lay a disc on any kind of surface with the "reading side" facing down...Then complain for scratches later.

  • Hey, the audio transcribe is accurate from 0:22 - 0:28!

  • Just use steam!

  • @oliethefolie how will a gaming client help us lol

  • fuck this new youtube layout ive missed two videos because they are too stubborn to admit its shit and just change it back

  • The book was released in America as "The Golden Compass." Really fantastic trilogy. My undergraduate research project was about that series and C.S. Lewis's space trilogy.

  • @Artifartibiz Dude, your comments are extremely unfunny. You should probably stop before you make yourself look even more dumb.

  • @Masterguy1243 OUCH ! not dude, bird.. and my discs are kept in perfect condition in truth!!! my daughter however is a pig with them .... it was a tongue-in-cheek comment ... lighten up or you may make yourself look like a complete grouch :-)

  • The skip dr is brilliant! You obviously didn't use enough enough water!

  • We have a cheaper solution in this house ..... you lick the disc, then wipe it in a circular motion on your dressing gown ... this only works if it is a chenille or towelling dressing gown, ... you can sometimes get a good result with the curtains, but don't attempt to use the cat, the hair comes off. Do NOT lick the disc if youve been drinking cherry brandy, banana milkshake or anything sticky... avoid putting the disc anywhere near your mouth if youve just eaten a peanut butter sandwich.

  • The book is called the northen lights the film company decided ''the golden compass'' was better even though its called an Alethiometer, which is never refered to as compass, it dosn't look like a compass, it dosn't even function in the same way as a compass. It is gold though I guess.

  • Nearly all my old DVDs are scratched. I rent films from lovefilm now so I have to keep good care of them :)

  • Yes, the book was called the northern lights by phillip pullman. I have the book somewhere

  • Hmmm....i take good care of my ps3 games, im 16 too, they still get scratched :/

  • you will not like my games collection for the 360 then, it's made of about 90 dvd's (no boxes) stacked on top of each others, can't count the times I've tipped the whole thing all over the floor, been using that thing for 5 years and no dead discs so far. Imagine the fun when looking for one specific title.

  • ROFL giant giraffe toung

  • I have one of those rotary CD cleaner things (though it only has one pad). It just leaves the disc covered with residue from the stuff you spray on it, and after about 3-4 uses the top plastic bit became unglued from the rest of the case. Well, you get what you pay for at pound land lol

In addition, it seems that CD/DVD players these days are much more robust against scratches and dirt than those of 10 years ago...

  • @Tomsonic41 Dirt is still a pretty deadly thing, cover the disk in fingerprint layer and it certainly won't play. However scratches aren't really much of a thing, you can paint up to 1/8th of the disk surface black and it'll still work through error correction... making it pretty unlikely for scratches to ever be the culprit.

Though with time, especially in light, some disks delaminate, which is almost invisible large area damage which is uncorrectable.

  • black bean made me lol

  • Or you just become part of the PC gaming master race and buy your games on steam. You can buy games that came out over 15-20 years ago like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D.

  • @junkietomato And don't forget emulation.

  • @junkietomato Also through Good old Games you can buy the best old games for an extremely discounted price with Windows Vista/7 support.

  • @junkietomato Except PC gaming sucks.

  • @Johnnymushio lol,you suck.

  • @junkietomato The only bad thing I have found with Steam is that 1$ = 1€

  • @junkietomato I like prefer PC gaming as well, but get over yourself.

  • Comment removed

  • @junkietomato steam fucken sucks

  • @silverhawkroman if steam sucks than so does santa. santa sir, does not suck

  • @xTrotts2618x you root for it because its the only centralized place to digitally download/buy games. the program's very inefficient, chopping up your RAM's memory.

If valve gave two shits about it, steam wouldn't be so buggy in the first place. So steam fucking sucks, doesn't mean I don't see myself forced to use it.

  • @silverhawkroman i never knew using 50mb of ram was inefficient, then again i haven't had 1gb of ram since 2004 so..

  • @silverhawkroman How is it inefficient? Do you have like, 512MB of RAM? Steam gives a service so good that it's been making pirates switch over. Valve DOES give a shit about Steam, as well as it's users, and bugs rarely arise. Even if there are, they get fixed within a day or two. Just look at the Steam Holiday Sale. New specials everyday, and everyone has a chance to win new games.

Either prove that Steam sucks with some hard evidence, or gtfo.

  • @junkietomato Most gamers like physically owning copies of the game.

  • @junkietomato Don't forget PSN, WiiWare and XBOX Live which has old console games.

  • @junkietomato Don't forget XBOX Live, PSN and WiiWare.

  • @whaowman actally, its WiiConnect24 and Wi-Fi, the last time i checked.

but the last time i checked was about a year.

  • @yofune99 That's the type of your internet connection not the name of the store you download games from.

  • @whaowman ok...

  • @whaowman but if youre saying PSN as play station network

cant you say XBOX Live as XBL?

  • @junkietomato Yeah, to bad it's impossible for console gamers to do, sadly XBOX Live, PSN and WiiWare won't be invented until 2053.

  • Yeah that's why you barely see NEW console games on the shelves that came out more than 6 months ago. Not to mention that consoles rely on disks and to put the cherry on top of the shit cake you have to pay for xbox live. Enjoy being unable to play the classic games you bought after this generation goes belly up.

  • @junkietomato There's XBOX Live Free.

  • @ChaosMew161 Good luck playing online with Xbox live for free.

  • @junkietomato You can buy games with Xbox Live Free.

  • Thats why I use Blu-ray. They are more robust that ordinary DVD's !

  • review of ashens soundboard on google android review click my channel give is a like

  • Steam. Is. Awesome.

  • I 3 Steam

  • @bensbrilliantvideos you "three" steam?

  • You speak french !!!! :D. We want a vidéo for us :P

  • The reading lasers of games consoles have a tendency to scratch their own discs after a prolonged amount of use - just take a look at any GTA game released. Despite this though, the consoles are still able to read the games without too many issues.

  • @DylRicho Especially when people have a tendency to do stuff like turning off their system without quitting a game first. Or moving their system around while the disc is still spinning.

  • @Phished123 Exactly. =)

  • @DylRicho Only on xbox 360 my friend.

  • @XjInterceptoR I was referring to all consoles, as they all will eventually.

  • @DylRicho when is eventually? My ps3 has never scratched a disk and I have had it since release.

  • @XjInterceptoR Good for you. Consoles do scratch discs.

  • I feel your pain, ashen, I really don't get why people can't take care of discs. All of my games back to my PS1 are in mint condition, including the cases. My PS1 games are in poor shape simply because I was a 10 year old idiot, lol.

  • The Karate Kid disc seems to be quite scratched on top as well. Sometimes that can be even worse than being scratched on the bottom. It may not be recoverable.

  • Conclusion: Lemon Aid?

  • Comment removed

  • these games are from blockbuster and are ex-rental i used to work there. and the reason ex-rental games are always scratched to fuck is because of the shit filing system they are all kept in clear acrylic plastic sheaths and they scratch the games.

  • Man, those are....some shitty games

  • i had one disk cleaner from philips and it used to scratch my disks.

  • I wouldn't trust GameStation too much with repairing discs - someone I knew bought one, and noticed the disc was noticeably thinner than other discs he had. The disc then broke his game console. On closer inspection, the disc had been sanded so thin the disc warped in the drive. It was either sanded too much, or had been traded in loads and had been sanded every time.

  • WHAT THE HELL! You can get a dvd cleaner from 99p stores? I used to pay £5 out of QD, fuck you Anglia Square.

  • Also, you'll rarely find scratches on a ps3 game since blu-ray doesn't scratch very easily.

  • Game stores near me sell odyssey 2 and Atari 2600 games along with ps3 and 360 and any other system you can think of.

  • do people still use dvd's?
