@zmov1: I think a lot of younger people think of classical music as boring because they associate the term with bland, sterile chamber-music. But a classical piece from a musician with real imagination and talent really is an entirely different kettle of fish.
La música no tiene fronteras, hace que el tiempo y el espacio se congelen y, con ayuda de la imaginación penetremos en un universo lejano pero no ignoto, quien tiene la sensibilidad necesaria para saberlo no posee una debilidad, eso es un don.

Thank you, Leonard Bernstein for this amazing performance of my favourite piece of music of all time. It reaches inside me, and grabs my soul and brings me to tears every time. I am so glad that he decided to use the chorus. I don't know why so many conductors do this amazing piece without the use of the chorus
Throughout my many years of listening to music, it is the music of Ravel that enchants me the most; I have returned to it many time s and am always astonished anew at its sheer gorgeousness and creativity. Debussy, Chopin and Rachmaninoff delight me as well.
I believe Ravel is probably the greatest orchestrator of all time .. this work especially takes orchestral dynamics, layering and tonal colour exprssions to a new level. He also did a brilliant job interpreting Mussorgsky's piano pieces from his Pictures at an Exhibition ... genius is an overused word but I think it is fitting here.
by far the best perfomance of this opus,so much lyricism and feeling, the sound isnt so clear and that makes it more dreamlike but i think it was an age that orchestras and choruses were really putting a lot of feeling into music, i see this is rare nowadays...no wonder
i was in a performance of this (in the choir) in the Philharmonic in my hometown...talk about gorgeous....i could almost feel Ravel casting a spell around me as i stood there on stage......
"On A Clear Day..." source music. Also source music for "Night Music" from Golden Boy.

It totally sucks that the higher quality, clearer recording of this masterpeice was removed from youtube. :/

Oddballishly etheric and moody. It's ashame that Isao Tomita's rendition of this is no longer available in North America.

Gorgeously atmospheric and played at exactly the right tempo; one has a real feeling of DAWN! It's amazing how many conductors get this wrong.

Bernstein's version is superb. Too bad there is no video of him conducting this performance because I can almost see the tears in his eyes.

I agree. Along with Rimsky-Korsakov, from whom Ravel learned a lot. And Respighi, also Rimsky's follower.
