NOt saying the SW face of Everest is more difficult than the West face of K2(that would

make for an interesting comparison though and no one has to climb the SW face of everest

direct) but It I think when you look at the two without oxygen and other support by other

routes other than the normal routes the comparison I think becomes more difficult

For example. There is only one person that I know of who has summited the SouthWest

face of Everest without Oxygen and he died on the descent on the SE ridge(joseph Just).

On the west face of K2 a Russian team put 11 people on the summit and they all

survivied without using Oxygen. Of course I think the Russians had a larger team and so on.

Another note on comparing Everest & K2. While I certainly do think K2 is more difficult

than Everest overall, I think a lot of people tend to overstate how much more difficult K2 is

over Everest when they start comparing Asent rates and so on for the simple fact that

a much higher % of those climbing everest use Oxygen and other kind of support. I bet

if you accounted for variables such as Oxygen, Style of ascent(large expedition VS smaller, etc), specific routes, it would be closer than U think

Lhotse Shar I view as the most difficult of the 8000 M peaks(and lhotse middle if

I think it really depends on what routes you're comparing it to and how you climb it.

For example the SouthWest Face or fantasy ridge on the east face(followed by continuing the NE ridge to the summit) on Everest I think would be more difficult

than the Normal route on K2 and even match up pretty well on the more difficult

routes on K2.

I think I've watched this 50X already , and I have one question. How long does it take to reach the Bottleneck from Camp4 ? I think the video doesn't really convey the scale of the distance , and was wondering if it was a two to three hour climb in itself , just to get to that point .

Am just wondering at 6.00 - 6.10: Stefano Zafka and Mina Sherpa with + 20.07.2007 - did they die on this date? Was it an accident descending the mountain? (There's no other evidence from this video that things went wrong...)

Beautiful but deadly mountain - it must be a sobering feeling on reaching the summit that you now have a 30% chance of dying on the way down.

Italian Climber Stefano Zafka has gone missing in harsh conditions on K2. He had been climbing with the Mountain Freedom Expedition, who made a successful summit of K2 on Friday.

During his descent, Zafka apparently has gotten lost due to disturbing weather conditions high up. He is without any radio communication.

Zafka’s misfortunes began on Friday when he was reported as missing. He never showed up to Camp 4. On Saturday, his teammates decided to go ahead and descend to K2 basecamp because the weather was deteriorating so rapidly. They left behind a tent at Camp 4 in hopes that Zafka could eventually make his way to this bit of safety.

iv'e heard K2 climbing is only a hype. K2 is fairly an easy mountian to climb. Anyone with two legs can do so. After seeing the footage i think it really is an easy climb.
