I have someone offering an e36 m3 for my 1991 Toyota MR2 turbo. My wife just had a kid (making me a dad, and giving me the need for a back seat). I had a 320 hp Volvo 850 before the MR2, loved that engine, hated the FWD. Would the M3 be a viable replacement for the 850 and worth the mr2?

2. Hmm, the M3 doesn't pack the "punch" of a turbo car (obviously) and feels slower but it really isn't. Is the E36 M3 an evo? Don't whatever you do, get the SMG. I don't know if you measure hp at the engine or wheels.. but my M3 evo made 255.1rwhp. They can hit 290-300kmh given enough room so not slow... Gearing is awesome too. All gears are usable and I've gotten 8L/100km sitting in 6th at 100kmh.

Back seat space is actually ok but don't know about baby seats... GL!!

Perhaps I would be better off looking for an e30 and going for the "lighter is better" driving? I would very much like to have a car that pulls and sounds like the volvo with the RWD and stability to match (with a new kid dropping a T5 engine into an old 240 or 740 is out of the question). I think that the M3 is the best car for the time, but is the e36 better than e30?

Drove the e36 M3. My MR2 is much, much better from a driving perspective, and my wife offered to buy me a 1992 Toyota Corolla (which I know to be the best silly little car ever made). I am gonna keep the MR2, there really is no replacement for that pull, especially around the track.

Ye i know lol, i was being nosey and was trying to work out what you were saying!

Is the Ring as intense as they say? I havent done many track days in this car, i used to have a 318is before i got the 2.8, and as you will know the 6pots dont like corners as much, i have alot of understeer.

Its fully poly bushed with coilovers, it handles better now than the Mtech suspension i had on it.

It is hard work- you will be sweating!

You really have to take it easy to start with as the place can bite you- a crash can be expensive as you have to pay for track closure, barrier repair etc.

Look at getting some more negative camber on the front of your car and get a 4wheel alignment done.

Fair play mate, I used to drive like you but then I learnt how to heel and toe on the downcchanges, makes the world of difference when ragging it out on track, stops the rear wheels from locking on the downchages and also saves a alot of load on the gearbox.

Ive done a 8.48 at the ring in the car but have stuggled to get a clear lap.

Dude, cool video! I never realized how much elevation change there is at the 'ring. How are you liking the yellowstuff pads? I liked them until I got a set of R-compound tires and they started to fade. Check out some of my track videos if you want to feel better about your "real" M3.

hmm , horizon does look like the mk 1 from the back , i would have to see the front i suppose , the horizon lights were rectangular, in the uk it was talbot horizon and was a piece of scrap ! but with 2.2 and weighing the same as a vx220 it will shift .

hi again, i have spent the last 4 years working race teams to develop the best methods of tuning e36 m3 , i have learned a heck of a lot ! my car does 0-60 in 4.5 and will keep up with new v8 anywhere you like. so we are creating a company soon to be offering services and parts to folks, the best way to get more torque at the wheels is to go for 3.64 diff and ltw flywheel , you just wouldnt believe the acceleration through the gears. the diff must be specially built though.

any info on modding m3 evo? - let me know - i have m3 evo and waitng for a DA superchager to be fitted - it does 314 hp at moment 260 at the wheels - the Sc is rated at 450-475 bhp - that ill have to wait and see

my modds are all n/a, watch out for da, i know the guys ! you should stick to n/a , if you get da kit fitted it will make your car a rocket but if your engine blows up dont blame da ! i know guys who have had many issues with da. the kit your lookin at is good though but i still would be extremely wary, mert would kick my balls for that . my car would still take yours round most tracks though ! to supercharge is the way though, turbo's are all bullshit, i dont care what anyone says.
