As for the series, this anime is seriously AWESOME. The buildup...what is achieved and what is not, and the anticipation are all extremely awesome! The only disappointing thing is that the rest of the series degenerates too much into fanservice and not on delivering the promise from these earlier episodes =(

@FromHighOrbit The timeline was significantly changed following the Neuroi invasion. In all out war circumstances like this, where humans are still hanging on for survival, it wouldn't be out of the question to field out-of-date fighters just because they have them available from prior wars.
