  • I use the lamp for to protect my 5 Amps. booster and Bachmann EZ Mate control from a short.. If you have a direct shortcircuit (as with the coin in the video) 16 Volts x 5 Amps = 80 Watts, twice a solder !!!!! The only problem is that under normal conditions, there is a small drop voltage in the lamp, but it is not significant.

  • Thanks for the info about the safety aspects. That's good to hear.

  • That very cool

  • Been running this way on my large HO Siskiyou Line layout for 11 years - never had a booster problem in that time.

The bulbs let 2.1 amps flow when there's a short. Is it safe to have a 5 amp booster be asked to deliver a 2.1 amp load? Sure it is - all it looks like is several more locos just came on line.

What's less safe is a sudden surge of 5 amps with no load through track and wheels - I've seen is ruin equipment.

  • Boosters stop with a short as a protection: current running for DCC can be significant. At first look, this looks like a way to override this protection: current keeps flowing even if there's a short. I understand why overriding this can be convenient, but is it safe?

  • Great information!

  • Nice set up and great tip

  • Very good, very interesting.

    Greetings.
