While pitbulls were bred to be fighting dogs, they were also bred to be manageable in the ring. A fighting dog would do no good to its owner if it couldn't be easily handled. the only reason they are now known for being vicious is because a bunch of ppl who dont know how to train a dog to actually be a fighter, just train them to be as vicious as possible (which you could do to any animal). While some pits do make good guard dogs, most do not. they are arguably one of the best family pets.

@immsi09 -- NO dogs can lock their jaw, it's anatomically impossible and is a proven myth.
It's called tenacity, some dogs have it, some dogs don't. That fact goes for every breed out there too by the way, any decent sized dog with the strength and tenacity can produce a "lock jaw" feature when biting something.
