I think the best shiphorn that you can hear today is the thyphoon of MS Boudicca (Eks M/S Royal Viking Sky). There were three ships buildt in the early 70's and they are still sailing the seas keeping many of their original features.
@EffectsAdmin , yes you are correct. The horn on the Queen Mary which is a Kockums Tyfon 575 is the largest and loudest ship horn ever made. The Leslie 300 would be the 3rd loudest behind the Leslie 425-DVE which is the second loudest ship horn ever made.
@BIGMIKESOCAL actually, you're incorrect in your information on the QM's horns. The ship was actually constucted with not 2 but 3 Kockums Typhon 575's. The third one was mounted on that platform on the second funnel, which you can see at 0:23. It is this horn that now resides on the OM2. The two horns on the ship today are both origional to the ship, although I do believe that only one is working. So imagine how loud it would be with all three of the Queen's horns working.
Why is it that the AE-300 blows a deeper note than the 6B? The 6B looks like a much larger horn. I guess the AE-300 has more distance between the diaphragm's resting point and the resonating point.
Exactly one octave difference between the two. Nice. Haha that lady who's walking backwards was trying to figure out where that second sound came from lol.
You are correct, The distance to the mic makes a big difference. But if you listen to the video towards the end you will hear a guy yelling "GOD DAMN! THAT'S A HORN!" That guy was on the Queen Mary's bow. He came down to check my horn out and told me that theQM horn startled him, but my horn scared the $**t out of him.lol
thats not really air. Its because the air is changing from such high pressure to low pressure water vapour forms. Same thing happens when you quickly disconnect the hose from an air compressor
Simply amazing! your horn was so loud I almost fell out of my chair! Your horn sounds like it won this Ship horn battle. Ship horn battle one and battle two are a toss up for my favotire video on the tube...keep the videos coming.
the queen mary's sounded like a old geaser

Since steam expands so much, I bet the steam whistles on the great ships were wicked.

My guess is the QM blast was louder considering it was MUCH further away than the truck's horn to the camera.

QM1 was NOT as loud as i would have expected.

Sad that only one of the Queen Mary's horns works. If both worked then she would be much louder!!

...@alderaforall... NEVER call me "dummie!" You do not even know me. Jeeze, do I truly need to draw this rhetorical metaphore out!
Two Great Ships: The Queen Mary- One; The Queen Mary II- Two.
Two Rreat Ships: Two massive horns.
One BadAssed individual, film actor and World Martial Arts Champion:
Chuck Norris.
Because he(Chuck Norris) is such a hard-ass; He uses these great horns as mere amplifiers for his casual hearing.
Comprendi?
