Sorry - it IS cameron (he went by the name Taylor Carpenter at the time) - I still have the program (and lots more footage) from his appearance at my house..
@laingjam i would love to see the look on prosciaorg's face when reading your reply... OWNED... is all i thought. HAHAHA! cameron never fails to impress me! i presume this fine instrument is yours!!! dead jellous!
Too many notes, played way too fast for my taste. Someone give the boy extra-double-caff coffee before the concert? I've heard this song done before by an orchestra, quite a clever little piece and you can hear all the parts perfectly -- Not here though and it does absolutely Nothing to show off the beautiful sounds of the organ.
I rather enjoy reading the debate of the tempo at which Cameron played this piece. It occurs to me that his intent might have been to share the capablilities of the Allen with a bit of tour de force. I've been known to do that myself! If it upsets a person to hear this composition this at this speed, there are a couple of youtube postings played by others on the organ that will allow you to nap between the notes. Great job, Cameron!
I think it's played to fast to realy bring out the beauty of the piece, very skilled to play it like this, but I'd like it better a tad slower and with more emotion
You give me his e mail, or phone, id be glad to. Otherwise, this seems like the ideal forum of people who have at least heard of carpenter. I can let the comments ferment, and gain more knowledge with minimal effort. That is why I post on youtube.
yeah, right. Like even if I had his phone or email, I would give it to some old troll on YouTube who has nothing better to do than to jerk off thinking about whether CC is gay or not.
btw just pick up a copy of the advocate theres a huge article all about it. and actually he says he's not, technically, gay. so get a clue.
Check out the December issue of the Advocate, the one with Rachel Maddow on the cover. The boy's a genius, talented and soon to be rich. He's also self defined as sexually "radically inclusive" .
What the HELL is the matter with you naysayers? The whole field of organ music has the image of 'Little old ladies at the Hammond spinet' and you have the audacity to say Cameron is BAD. Me thinks that there is jealous rage amoungst the crack players here. My guess is that the shrillest voices are wannabes' that secretly wish that they had 1/10th his talent. Sure you don't like it and that is why the genre is a dead end run in music today! Lighten up.. Jealousy eats the soul, here ..A FEAST
Yes, this is Cameron Carpenter (he went by his first name, Taylor, at the time) - he was at my house to do this concert. (I'm the person who posted this video).
Are we absolutely sure this is Cameron Carpenter? Both his looks and his voice as he's talking at the beginning seem more like Nathan Laube to me. Laube's a fellow young prodigy organ conservatory star, currently at Curtis in Philadelphia.
what is wrong with every one. all are complayning. why? I bet non of you can play like this, he is not perfect but very very good. why is all so negative????
I think Carpenter should have kept this look (i.e. the black tails, black pants, black bow tie and white shirt). His current "white look" is pretty bad. I also think He should consider getting a new publicity agent, have you seen some of his pub. photos? Gold Lame pants red go-go boots, He's an organist, not some 70s 0r 80s rocker.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This was a fantastic, baffling performance of some of the worst music I have ever heard. It is impressive that Mr. Carpenter tried to describe this "hockey-rink music" in a serious manner.
The contrast between the talent of the serious organist, beautifully dressed, and the exceptionally tasteless music provided for one of the most surreal and entertaining musical experiences of my life!
I personally wouldn't consider music composed by Leroy Anderson as "hockey-rink music". If memory serves me correctly this was written during the time when Anderson was music director/arranger for the Boston Pops.
Regardless of Mr Anderson's occupation at the time, or the potential qualities of his other works (that I am entirely unfamiliar with), I can inform you that I sent this video to a number of friends and musicians as a joke - and indeed, several pointed out, in their replies, how exceptionally corrosive an effect this music has upon one's sense of esthetics and soul.
Secondary comment - the sound of the organ depends of course alot on registration. He indeed used a very bright, "brassy" group of sounds, added tambourine in the left hand, and a lot of "stuff" going on, in this tune. Lots of red stop tabs down! This organ sounds amazingly different when registered with "traditional" theatre organ style registrations (more tibias, voxes, etc.)
Actually, I think it was both. If you listen carefully even at the beginning, he has a tambourine in the left hand (along with other things) ... yes, a snare was used too in parts of the song.
This was recorded directly to a Sony TRV-900 camera, audio direct to camera. No high end audio gear. AT 822 stereo mic. The organ had been voiced by Walt Strony. In the room, the organ sounds fantastic overall, esp. when played by one who is primarily a theatre organist. I have other recordings (audio only, so can't place on YouTube) that show how great his Allen GW-4 sounded while in our home.
first of all, this organ is an excellent choice for those who have no room for a theater organ, but want the exact same sound. Allen organs are the best organs, no doubt about it. Its definelty the video. 2: cameron never reads youtube comments (its on the site) I have no idea why, I wish he would but oh well...and 3: either way, he makes money so he would never listen to us. anyway, this was a GREAT performance!
oh yeah, sorry if i sounded snobby, i ws just saying what i think. I have an allen, so my comment is sorta biased against any other theater organ. and yeah its true, he doesnt read youtube comments. his "agent" said the explaination is on his website, and its not, i clicked the reason and the page was blank. which shows that he doesnt really care what we think and also he does seem mechanical in his playing, but how are you supposed to express when you are concentrating on great playing?SAYSPEPE
All respect to the abilities of your fingers and feets, Cameron (no doubt about it!), but we need a little more expression -- less overdrive and more music. Lean on the melody a little more and we'll be happy.
I think he's going to literally burn out. He needs medications.
