It was a first gear pull, it was very close, GTI won by 3/4 car length. Obviously we know the STI which is 10 years newer and puts out 300 crank horsepower stock is faster than a stock GTI.

ok i have owned 2 vr6 gti's, a 12v mk3 and a 24v vr6. my buddy has an 04 sti. the 12v is rated at 172 crank hp, the 24v at 201. the sti was rated at 300 crank and the new ones at 305. an sti will flat out spank either vr6. subaru designed one hell of a vehicle, yet so did vw. personally, the vr6 sounds better, looks better and feels better. but numbers dont lie. sti will win in every aspect. unless its a shitty driver. a+ for both cars tho, i will say.
all you subaru guys have to say is "lets go in the dirt", face it, european cars are much more reliable. and why dont you look at car and driver which rated the GTI over the WRX stock

well since you think stock dubs are slow, i've done 3 STANDARD sti's and my car is a STANDARD vr6 12 valve, sti's are quick up to 80 but loose power after that were as vr's pull hard all the way through to 148. i will be charging my dub just to rub it in a bit more :)
a stock factory subaru sti is 205kw the VR6 is 128KW stock ..the scooby will eat a stock VR6 for breakfest...? what scooby R u racing bro..if the VR6 was supercharged then yeah
ok i dont know if you know much about drive trains and how turbos work. yeh the sti runns about 220bhp vr6 runns 177bhp on my car.
the difference being the way the power is delivered and transfered to the wheels. sti's are 4 wheel drive, they loose power through the transfer box and also through the 2 propshafts and diffs they have to turn, turbos in sti's don't come on full boost untill about 3500 rpm and suffer with lag between gear chainges.
stock vr6 pulls all the way through the rev range and don't have 2nd dif, transfer box or a turbo to spool up.and the engine is a 15 degree v6 so it has better power delivery and don't have to wait for a turbo to come on boost and they are alot lighter so power to weight ratio is much better.
like i said, sti's are quick untill your in top gear then they loose power and come off boost, vr6's have enough torque to redline in top with out trying
yeah fair enuf but when the sti turbos kick in it will leave u behind and the sti being a 4wd will be alot faster off the mark...i dont knw of a subaru that has 220bhp? a WRX STI impreza is 276bhp...i have a VR6 and ive driven and raced subarus they much faster..a vr6 is just a 2.8 v6 engine..VR6 is 0-100 in 7secs where as sti can range from 4.9 -5.3 0-100
The stock english wrx has 220 bhp(jdm 250). I raced one and whilst he would of beat me off the lights(i was infront) to 60 once i got into 3rd i actually pulled away from him. Spanked me round the corners though,lol. Ive got an Odb2 vr6 incase you're wondering and the other car was an english wrx..
