There are a multitude of reasons to dislike MTV but give them their due that at one time they had aired Liquid Television. Whereelse would see such diverse examples of animation. Slow Bob has always been a personal favorite as well as the early episodes of Aeon Flux before they gave the characters voices---a bad idea in my opinion and what made me loose interest.
I'm watching the MTV30 special on VH1 classic right now and they just showed this, I see "music by The Residents" and I just had to watch, it made absolutely no sense, but it was awesome
I caught this the first time on the late and very lamented Liquid Television and absolutely loved it. Too bad there was never a seqel made as the ending somewhat hinted at.
@madahad9 From what I understand, he eventually got called to work on "The Nightmare Before Christmas" so that's why he didn't pursue this one further.
I remember seeing this on Mtv way back in the early 90s when I was only 4-5 years old.. I didn't know what it was, but I clearly remember the animation and the twins and lizards in the attic. Nobody seems to remember this when I explain it to them, but finally I found it!
I bet Henrey Selick is a fan of Eraserhead, this short really reminds me of it in terms of atmosphere. Both take place in a sort of sinister dreamworld.
Indeed, there have been SO many examples of self-indulgent twaddle in animation on the cable networks, it makes ya wonder what their point is in encouraging it >:^/
Thanks so much for posting this; here we see the brilliance of Henry Selick in its purest form, in collaboration with The Residents no less. Was watching Coraline earlier, many parts of that film reminded me of Slow Bob. He's come a long way to get back to what he does best.
Tim Burton didn't take the credit, THE STUPID OLD MEDIAS gave him all the credit because "Burton" was more "hype" than "Selick" !
Burton and Selick are friends, they don't give a shit about what media/people think, all they want is making good films.
Please stop saying bs about that, we're all getting sick of the "omg listen me!!1 I need attention!11 Burton is an stealer !", OLD MEDIAS ARE STUPID, WE ALREADY KNOW THAT, so enjoy or GTFO.
Burton doesn't take the credit from Selick. Burton wrote and imagined visually TNBC (he also made the look of the characters), Selick directed it. And they are still friends.
Ah, now it makes sense....I watched this once before and I thought "This makes no friggin sense....but it looks AWESOME!!" hehe Animated Slow Bob moves kinda like Jack Skellington :)
Henry Selick didn't just work on the animation for those two movies. He directed them both. Nightmare before Christmas was based on a story Tim Burton came up with but he didn't have much to do with James and the Giant Peach at all. He only co-produced it. They are really Henry Selick's movies.
That's pretty awesome, but it's not surprising that it didn't get picked up. When you have the awesomely bizarre Residents doing your background music, you know a series with mass appeal isn't what you're after.
I like to feel sexy....knowing someone is watching me ..wanting me...turns me on!BADLY! I like to flirt and pose..and sometimes i like to get WILD! how? ..he he..come in video and youll see:-)) maybe u can teach me something..or maybe i will ! come visit me at MeetYourFling (.COM) my user-id there is gwendolin-xscc chat soon on cam :-) kcwnhovzhocr
I have seen the census taker a few times on cable.... terrible, suburban, mundane movie and the great residents music is totally out of place. You will be very dissapointed.
wow is all i can say, i never thought to look but i have this on laser disc but i don't have a laser disc player. i can't even believe i finally get to see this, i've wanted to see if for about 8 years. thanks, i'm not even going to watch it right now. wow
I only partially remember this stuff..I was usually stoned out of my mind...but some of it is coming back...some of the trippiest shit I've ever seen..
SENSATIONAL! I love this kind of twisted animation, I can't get enough of it. I've just watched all 8 episodes of the magical Winter Steele. What next........how about AEON FLUX?
I really wish they'd put Liquid Television out on DVD. Ideally, it would include ALL the Stevie Washingtons, plus Doktor Zum, The Egg and the Snake, and Sizzlelean.

a pilot for what would've been a series. Glad this shit was scrapped. It was creepy as fuck, and made NO sense.
