@chadmbedwell In the 80s there was really only three guitarists that mattered. I know it sounds horrible, but EVERY hard rock player in the 80s was influenced by Eddie, Yngwie, and Lynch. For Hard rock they were the kings of the time.

The good old days. I remember when my brother got this video in 1990. We watched it over and over, mesmerized. Lynch was and is the shit. Vai and Satriani were also establishing themselves at the time, but Lynch had a bit of a head start with his time in Dokken. My source of inspiration for picking up the guitar 19 years ago.

I have to agree. Hammet always sounds like his intonation is off. I don't think he sucks, but I never considered him to be a great lead player like Lynch.
That lick from 00:34 to 00:38 is pretty badass. Whatever it is...it's something original - not a scale often heard. His stuff doesn't seem that hard...just damned damned damned fast! As good as Kirk Hammett ever was.
It's a three-note-per-string maj7#11 chord tone pattern, also known as the hirajoshi scale. Lynch called it the "Gothic Octave". It's pretty badass, and it's hard to play as well, because the stretch in that lick is immense. You're playing an Ab, A and a Db, or in other words fret 4-5-9 on the first two strings, then start on the second octave and do the same on the D string etc...
It's harder than it looks, unless you've got 4 feet long hands.

@wedge070 actually both lynch and rhoads tried out to be with ozzy in 79, but rhoads got the job. lynch worked with ozzy for 3 days sometime around 82-83

The good old days. I remember when my brother got this video in 1990. We watched it over and over, mesmerized. Lynch was and is the shit. Vai and Satriani were also establishing themselves at the time, but Lynch had a bit of a head start with his time in Dokken. My source of inspiration for picking up the guitar 19 years ago.

It's a three-note-per-string maj7#11 chord tone pattern, also known as the hirajoshi scale. Lynch called it the "Gothic Octave". It's pretty badass, and it's hard to play as well, because the stretch in that lick is immense. You're playing an Ab, A and a Db, or in other words fret 4-5-9 on the first two strings, then start on the second octave and do the same on the D string etc...
It's harder than it looks, unless you've got 4 feet long hands.
