I have been singing this song to my new born daughter from the day she was born. She is two months old now, and still stops crying when I sing it to her. Awesome song and composition, true to its meaning. Same applies to the acting -- simple and honest. Other comments have rightly praised Rafi, Johnny, and Burman, but we should also give credit to the guy getting champee in the second half of the song. Hilarious facial expressions!!

undoubtedly, this song deserves every ounce of praise written here, and more.. the sad thing is, they have remade this song for a new Indian movie, titled Road Movie, starring Abhay Deol.. and even though i dont mind, after all, they are using their own songs, it is upsetting to hear the new version :(

In his biography 'Ten Years with Guru Dutt' Abrar Alvi has said that Guru Dutt wanted SDB to copy a tune from the 78 RPM record brought by him from his foreign trip, of the film 'Harry Black and the Tiger'. The Producer of 'Harry Black' later when heard 'Sar Jo Tera Chakraye', not only could not recognise the tune from his own film, but went on to praise SDB's music.

hey..the unknown history behind this song is that this song was not written..the lyrics of this song were printed on afghan oil bottle as text,which was available at 1930-1950 in indian markets..they adobted the text as it is,they just did the necessary editing in that text and gave this wonderfull music..today what we sing was the text on the afghan oil bottle..how cool it is!!
