Hey, new generation hippies lol!!. We are apart of a global movement that is trying to make some positive changes.
Whether you care to make a change or not, to better this world, change is inevitable and is already happening!!! The question is are you ready for it?
Are you willing to make the little effort that it takes to ensure the survival of our species and the natural world as we know it?
eeeehhhh yeeeeeeeah. so which part of "fake science" and "manipulated data" don't ya get? should we do less to pollute the air/water/land? yes. should it be enforced by gov't mandates, taxes and intrusive methods? no. there IS man made pollution - there is NO increase in water temps over last 30 years. Frankly, knowing what "Plantary Skin" is capable of is enough to make me fear for what's left of our privacy rights as humans.
2nd year in a row where we've done very little during earth hour to make a difference. Many other large cities across the world did a much better job . They had things going on their cities for awareness. The only thing Calgary did was an open house at the observatory and even then the parking lot there wasn't even full! I hope the studies they were doing last night prove to be a failure again for the city of Calgary because of our bogus attitude to loving the earth.
both points are valid... as I mentioned... I hope there is a better turn out next year. I want to take vantage points from the 4 points, to get a better picture.
But you are right, the communities, I think did very well this year. Even here in Inglewood, most families had their lights off with candles.
Things were generally quite dark, I was able to look over the whole city, and it was pretty much all street lights. You can't judge Calgary on a few office buildings. The decision to not turn those lights off was made by a small number of people. Plus, the company suffers for their own stupidity of keeping their lights on, in costs. Western Canada Square always has it's lights off at night. I have to say though, a lot of light from the street lights, I wonder if it's that necessary for safety.
@3goals4bonzai well if its a matter of safety, then perhaps they should be using other means of energy such as Solar Energy? Just an idea that I am putting out there. There are always technical solutions to solve technical problems. Check out The Zeitgeist Movement.

I was just as disappointed,
I was sitting in a park in the Northwest with some freinds, all the homes were pitch black.
But there was this cloud of light that hung over the city from C.O.P. and Downtown.
Not to mention it was cloudy and we couldn't see the stars. Sad really.
I'm sure that hockey game didn't help much either.

leaving lights on in businesses/buildings generally lowers insurance costs.
