I totally understand-have a box full of car decks here (literally, there's at least 10 in the box) that need service, got them from a garage cleanout sale for nearly free. They sat here for a year and a half, before I got around to even start fixing them- it's very time consuming.

I have 2 of those Telex decks, got them both NOS from old warehouses that were closed and vacant

the car deck needs a new belt, the wow/flutter is excessive- and could you move the cord away from the Telex changer ? It's going to get stuck on the tapes in the carousel when it turns, and jam it up or break it.  Otherwise this is really cool.

yeah, i think the audio in the valiant is hilarious. i'll never replace that belt. i have the plastic lid covering the cartridges when i'm using the telex. i took it off so people could see the cartridges changing in this little video. dust cover is usually always on. thanks for checking out the video

ps- you should replace the belt, 8-track doesn't have to be a funny clown audto, the technology was actually pretty good for its time

i love and appreciate 8-tracks. i listen to 8-tracks daily in my house and the deck i use for that (hitachi sp-2812 ambiophinic sysetem) sounds great. i've got no time/ i've never taken apart a car stereo 8-track. i know 8-tracks can sound great if they're working properly. i've got so many players that work fine so i'll just let this 1 be a decoration and turn it on occasionally for fun. ps, i'm jealous that you have 2 of those telex decks. mine works great if the tapes are in good shape.
