Hi i am very interested into luithiering, im only begining but i look forward to building many string instruments as i possibly can. Im just a little curious on how to accomadate a living by choosing this as my career track.
Go get some formal education in a technical field. Be it, math, engineering or manufacturing. Try and find a course that teaches you a high level of CAD/CAM and some materials science. The course does not have to be a university degree, it can be a vocational certificate. But it will both give you something to fall back on, and allow you to get a job in design/engineering/manufacturing where you can gain contacts and learn how to use tooling.
After you have become qualified in an engineering profession, you will be in a position to setup your own workshop. A bank will happily give you a loan, and you will have the practical logistical know how and contacts. You can then focus on making the guitars, the CAD/CAM software skills will really help when it comes to CNC machining which you will depend on heavily for electric guitars especially. You can supplement your income with your qualified profession, or make other things too.
wtf? is that all intonation does? doesnt it have anything to do with the chords ?
