  • I found Porcupine Tree only a little while ago but have been hooked ever since. Gavin is definitely one of the most creative drummers of our time.

  • He's simply perfect...so tasteful, so delicate yet powerful, so musical, and all of that using mainly matched grip! What else can be said?

  • the worst part was 5:19

  • Love the fill at 4:04

  • The part from 2:50 to 3:50 is more euphoric than a one minute orgasm. It kept playing in my head the whole day.

  • spectacular

  • gavin harrison you are the reason i play the drums man....your the man who taught me that your never the best you can be....and everyone is entitled to their own opinion on who the world's greatest drummer is...but nobody can deny that there will never be another gavin harrison...much love

  • nice hair

  • he should be DT`s new drummer

  • He is quite possibly the greatest drummer alive.

He, Benny Greb, and Chris Coleman. Top 3.

    Ohhhh yeahhhhh.

  • write fred grenier, if you want to see drum video!

  • The snare gets really annoying when you're listening to it with small speakers..

  • aaaahhhhh i met him tonight!!!

  • so many baby splashes cymbals hahahaha :')

  • OMG 32 dislikes what idiots do that?! this song is brill i can pay this beat with ghost notes and i'm 10 :)

  • What a dick!

  • He has such highly developed independence he might as well have four arms.

  • I wish he was my drum teacher

  • Johan Rehborg

  • Sounds of Muzak - works as prozac.

  • Zildjian cymbals are mad money! -___________-

  • @Jonathansernel1 Especially Hybrid K's and Orientals which are the only ones I see him using -_-

  • 31 people can play better that Gavin..?

    Hmmm...

  • @4:05 :D

  • 4:05 :D

  • Does anyone know what cymbals those are on that little rack of his above the hihat?

  • @XxMAXYPADxX Unfortunately Gavin made alot of them, and Zildjian made some for him custom.. However, if your willing to buy paiste cymbals (some people must have 1 company of cymbal everywhere on the kit) they make Paiste cup chimes that come in a wide assorted variety and sound just like or similar to the ones found on his kit. They are pricey however at roughly 80 dollars per chime, but considering gavin bases all of his accentings and stuff off them he would say its worth it =)

  • @XxMAXYPADxX His homemade chimes...

  • he is geniusssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • I hope PPT last as long as Rush. They have given so much to so many. Long live the true KINGS of rock & roll.

  • despite his great technique... you can tell that he really feels what he's playing...not only that but makes you think about all the crap out there nowadays (just showing off, nice haircuts and all that shit) and how many people have forgotten what music truly is about...

  • Here's a man who makes the simplest drumlines sound the best they can. All the while adding these insane little fills and hidden bassdrum maddnesses all over the place! Is the man a part of the drumset or are the drums a part of him? Nobody knows.

  • that's a very disciplined well rehearsed drummer

  • beautiful fill 1:27 and 1:31. would have loved to hear some floor toms in this space

  • no but you can't blame that kit for sounding so good. look at those hoops for instance, must be a very highly defined die-cast!

  • Lindo sonido, barbaro....

  • I love how his every hit is just so considered!

  • How can you not like this, this is godlike

  • Dislike this is the equivalent to dislike science or math.

  • Bloody Brilliant-Gavin is one of the 'wonders of the world'!

  • what a fucking crazy fill in between 2:44-2:47

  • Gavin is almost too good for Porcupine Tree. I find it so weird that they're the polar opposite of the technically-oriented prog band, yet they have this drummer who is just so actively awesome he outright steals the songs from time to time. This from a PT fan, by the way.

  • I love the tom/hi hat combo right before the solo...simple, yet really musical

  • This is great.

  • seriously i cant stop watching this video..

  • I love how smooth and relaxed he is. Not notch well done!

  • Hey, someone start a flame war and completely miss the point of the video.

  • time signature?

btw never really listened to PT but i really like them now haha

    beautiful work behind the kit

  • @hoowoah 7/8 for the verses, but 4/4 for the chorus.

  • @hoowoah 7/8

  • @hoowoah 7/4

  • Ow. My brain.

  • 31 people are def , or just brain damaged.

  • Hey. I met Derek Roddy in New Mexico. He said quietly, Yeah, I auditioned for Dream Theatre a little while ago. Haven't heard yet. WTF! That would be a great choice for DT. And, Derek is the nicest guy you could meet, and absolutely kicks ass. He could pull it off. Leave Gavin in PT. He is a born prog and groove drummer

  • Dream theater would be an amazing band if they weren't total showoffs. Images and Words and Awake are still fantastic albums.

  • SONOR = PERFECT SOUND

  • What crash cymbal is the one in front of him?

  • @MickyArmageddon 20" Oriental Crash of Doom, I think

  • portnoy isnt even that good IMHO. offcourse he was good once but now he's all show off and nothing else. if you want to talk about real artists talk about danny carey. don't talk about mr.. unoriginal portnoy and the pretentious dream theater here. They were amazing till around 1995 and in-portions after that but now they are poser musicians(pseudo metal shit).

  • if only the rest of the band was as good as him id have a new one to listen to

  • @bullrage74 dude.. they are freakin awesome

  • @steininja ehh id prefer tool over these guys since they are kind of in the same genre i think. they are just kind of monotonous and don't have any peak points

  • @beastin12344 yeah.. i do prefer Tool a couple of notches over PT.. but PT is all about the grooves...

  • @beastin12344

They can be as much monotonous as they wish, but as long as Gavin Harrison drums like this, it will never get boring :)

  • His whole kit sounds phenomenal :O

  • Great... and not just great. Better. Better than great.

  • I can watch this over and over again. Never gets tired of this song

  • WOW!!! What a groove!

  • 4:06--- Holy Shit

Scratch that... Whole video--- Holy Shit

  • 4:06--- Holy Shit

  • DAMN..That snare sound is da bomp..Shizzznittt!!!

  • @drumz47 Nicely put.

  • RESPECT !

  • RESPECT !

  • Gavin Harrison for new Dream Theater drummer!!! :D

  • @irwin3036able no he cant leave porcupine tree lol

  • @irwin3036able yes! if only their pornoy would get his head out of his own ass. haha

  • @ghostdrummer16 Its Dream Theater that doesn't want Portnoy back, Dream Theater needs to their heads out of their asses

  • @Avenged7Fold923 OHHH, didnt know, i just saw portnoy bout a year ago, still with dt, he sucked hard.

  • @Avenged7Fold923 Well you don't exactly quit a band you were part of for a long time, wait until they've auditioned and given the position to someone else and then come back and say "Hey guys, sorry about that, I changed my mind."

  • @Joziaac Its the fact they didnt want to make a album, Portnoy did. If i were in his position i wouldve left too.

  • @Avenged7Fold923 What the hell are you talking about? Both DT and Portnoy have stated in numerous interviews that the reason Portnoy quit was that he wanted to take a long break before making another album, and the rest of the band was unwilling to wait around for a year.

  • @Joziaac Other way around bro. Why do u think he went to A7X, he didnt want a break, so he quit.

  • @Avenged7Fold923 Naw dude, Portnoy wanted the break, but the rest of the band didn't. What he wanted wasn't a break from MUSIC, but a break from DREAM THEATER'S music. He wanted to kick back, work on some other projects, and from there go and continue writing DT music. He was feeling burnt out on DT stuff.

His decision to play with A7X had nothing to do with any of that. Mike was Rev's favorite drummer and biggest influence, and so the dudes in A7X thought it would be a great way to honor Rev.

  • @Avenged7Fold923 I'm beginning to doubt you've actually watched/heard/read a single interview of either the band or Portnoy concerning the departure of Portnoy from the band.

  • @Joziaac I have.

  • @Avenged7Fold923 Then you're either trolling or you completely misunderstood it.

  • @Joziaac Im not trolling, just from specific interviews, MP has stated that he wanted to make a album, and DT didnt wanna.

  • @Avenged7Fold923 Ay Dude Joziaac is right and so is guitarrhythymfool MP wanted to kick back and work on some side projects, DT is now with Mike Mangini getting idea's for an new album, The guys of avenged sevenfold asked MP to join for a period of time, actually the last world tour they had, MP isn't with A7X anymore cause the guys of A7X thought he was ''to good'' in a way like people were saying It's A7X with MP

So MP did wanted to take a break from DT music

  • @RifleImpact Ok i notice i was wrong, my bad peoples

  • @Avenged7Fold923 That doesn't make any sense though, DT has been working on a new album since January. Why would they be making an album if they were the ones who didn't want to?

  • @Joziaac I said i was wrong

  • I've always loved his snare sound. MInt! Very tasteful and groovy drummer.

  • can't......stop......watching......

  • There's a universe of Inspiration in this video!

  • I hated 5:18

Hated it so so so much

  • Simon Phillips present...

  • muzakgasm

  • cool

  • 4:37 - 4:38 epic win

  • the sound of 4:03 gives me a drumgasm! :-D

  • what a drummer!! perfect! ^_^

  • I was thinking im good at drumming until i watch this.. now I suck again

  • 30 people disliked this because of sheer jealously

  • There are very few people who are able to play like this ... his drumkids are super and his cymbals sound awesome...go gavin ;D

  • Gavin you rock!

  • A new found idol to worship while im re-learning what i knew before!

  • How on earth can a drummer not like this? it should be impossible

  • ......wow. just freakin' wow.

  • i can sell my ass for this drum set.

  • @21ZuZu12 You have to bid more than that, I've heard that currently the highest bid includes an ass, one testicle and 10 nude photos of Tony Blair.

  • This song is as much technique and talent, as it is rhythmically divine. Make no mistake, you need to be a top notch drummer to cover this song with a semblance of respect to the great GH

  • Hmm... 30 dislikes? MADDAFAKKAS. That's right. Yeah. How 'bout that?

  • This is almost the 10% of Gavin Harrison.

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those cymbals are divine!!!

  • Wow, ok. I know this has been said a zillion times before but I can't help myself now.

29 dislikes! If you dislike porcupine Tree, you instantly also dislike good music, peace, democracy, cold beer and boobs.

PT is everything good there is in life.

  • @parasthakur porcupine tree are my favourite band i love the song tinto brass :)

  • @parasthakur Basically a Gay Conservative...

  • @parasthakur If you don't like Porcupine Tree, then this song is about you.

  • How could 29 dickheads NOT like this?

  • That fill at 1:45 is so fucking cool! Gosh, he really is a master of creative and interesting fills.

  • 1:21 gavins hair goes flying

  • 0:21 LOL HIS FRONT HAIR GOES FLYING but gavin is sooo amazing

  • If you dislike this your "One of the blunders of the world"!!

  • lol, I cant hear him hit the cymbal at 3:13 but still he does. There's no sound from it, or is it just me?

  • @JakeTheSnake9604 The China has such a short, sharp sound that it's difficult to hear, is all.

  • @JakeTheSnake9604 There IS a sound, my dear pal. The china's pretty tight though

  • such a great song!

  • It freaks me out how he is able to get that kind of sound out of a snare drum outfitted with triple flanged hoops.

  • i once again had to experience tha gavin harrison is equal to or greater than... god :)

  • i once again had to experience tha gavin harrison is equal to or greater than... god :)

  • Dream drumset? yes. XD

  • Gavin Harrison one of the best and wonders of the world. Wish i was him

  • i just recently heard of gavin for the first time and i must say i am amazed. Hey plays so groovy and yet so extremly precise. and as a person he is so moderate in his appearance. and very pleasant. There is so much jibjab out there about this drummer and that drummer and most of all this who-is-who-talk is nothing more but stinking breath. But in this case all the advance praise is really justified!!! he is just fantastic, i just added one more guy to my list of role models!!

  • Seriously. Together with Dirk Verbeuren, Mike Portnoy and John Fred Young this is probably one of the best drummers on the world right now.

  • @NitroCoasters Mike Portnoy doesn't even come close...

  • @eastonhockeyrocks yeah, ok. But Dirk Verbeuren surely does.

  • @NitroCoasters I am not going to rag on the guy and say he's bad, but every video I have watched of him is skank beats and blasting. I really don't even see how you could compare the two; they are from two completely different schools of drumming.

  • @inimicalODDITY Yeah, I know that. That's why I didn't compare them, I just mentioned his name. But they do come close to eachother, because there is some footage of Dirk doing not only blasts etc, but also grooves, shuffles and stuff like that. Dirk just prefers the blast and heavy side of drumming, but I know for sure if you ask him to drum along to this song, he will come awfully close. A really underrated drummer.

PS. I forgot to say: GAVIN ROCKS

  • he is a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Call me simple guy, but the fill at 4:27--It just makes me cum!

  • @paradiddle1 Yeah man, that's why I dig Maitland way more, cause all his fills are all simply amazing like that.

  • It looks soooo easy for him! at 3:13 he just casually swings for that cymbal like he could do this in his sleep

  • 4:00 made my change my trousers

  • i can listen all night long shit like that, i can even fall asleep not because they are boring, but because it's like a drug. it invades my brain and i feel stone like after masturbating and just sitting staring at nothing....

ill go search more of that modern drummer shit, who knows, i may find something too illegal for me :)

  • The Greatest!!!

  • Simply the best!

  • His drumming is so tasty and clean... Unbelievable player with a beautiful sounding kit

  • @portnoy94 Oh man, do I agree. I'm a big fan of Portnoy and Gavin is an amazing player. Very clean and precise!

  • Love the fill at 1:25.

  • Gavin Harrison is a beast!!

  • fucking awesome

  • Gavin Harrison. One of the wonders of the world.

  • @Deathhunter992 You're fuckin' right ;)) HE IS

  • @Deathhunter992 he's going down??? NO!!!!! lol

  • He is such a clean drummer! Everything he does is so perfect, and it goes so well with the song.

  • with all my respect to his virtuose drumming, i find that his drumming on the original track was much more adequate.

  • One word, Eargasm!

  • I love the way he´s hitting the china at 1:50

  • such a drummer..........even the heaven will be a fan of him

  • Gavin is one of my favourite drummers. Im have been listening to his drumming carefully recently and his use of dynamics is amazing, and everything he plays flows so well its insane

  • 29 guys think: "Weak! Travis Barker best drummer 4ever!"

  • omg 1:27

  • And they say white people have no rhythm.
