This MIGHT work at this range but as you can see on the 2nd target the cannon shoots over, not at it.
Activating the laser rangefinder fixes that. It's just one switch on the left an should be included into this tutorial as it allows you to attack stationary (or even moving with MUCH practice) targets even at ranges over 2.5 km with a low to medium burst.
A thanks to you, good sir. Your tutorial helped me out nearly two years ago when I was still learning the ropes of the Shark. My apologies for the lateness of my gratitude; yet another one of those little things one regrets later on in life.
@wodo26 Nice tutorial.I'm new to this game (I'm downloading this) and I am trying to get to know some stuff before playing.Great tutorial, but I have 2 questions:1)What is TrackIR? 2)Can you fly any other helicopters besides the Hokum?
I'm not saying that's a bad tutorial at all because it's very good and very helpful but could you like put the buttons you're pressing on the screen or something for when you uncage the shkval and all, and if there was an AA capability wouldn't you be a bit of a easy target, is there a way to do it more quickly
I'm not trying to criticize because it's much obliged but any help?
Thank you. And yes I'm using TrackIR 4. I've been more than satisfied with its performance. Recently a new version 5 has been released, it's supposed to be even better! Just make sure you get the TrackClip Pro for your Track IR for best experience.
What´s the benefit of the trackclip? I mean, correct me if i´m wrong, but it´s just a display to fix the Trackir it to your headphone set... Isn´t it?
I want to know because i was about to buy version 4 with vector expansion, no trackclip... But now you´ve set me in doubt ;)
@PrandtlGlawert Trackclip Pro is a small wired device with 3 diodes. I have Track IR 4 + both the Trackclip and Trackclip Pro. Trackclip pro has significantly better precision, mounts on you headset and is connected by wire. Regular Trackclip mounts on you hat but has reduced precision. At least in my experiance.
The hover mode only works well if you already have a stabilized aircraft. If you engage it while flying or turning it will most likely cause you to crash.
So basically, you need to know how to hover, there is no "cheating" even with the auto-hover? The Auto-hover just takes some of the load of the pilot as he tries to engage targets and such?
Haven't really played DCS:BS much. I bought it, but my crappy video card is keeping me from running it very well (I can run it, but it's just too laggy to play). I plan on getting a new card soon ;D
The heli allows you to autohover and once you are estabilized, you can press the auto-turn button so the chopper will turn towards the place the Shkval is pointing at (The Shkval is the main screen in the cockpit, the one black and white... The one you use to acquire targets)
Besides, i am almost sure you can do almost everything a real Ka-50 pilot would be able to... But that takes a HUGE number of hours practicing... Good luck ;)
It's similar to IL-2, but a little better. It's done as a recording of the game as someone played it, with text & audio telling you what to do. At any point you can take control, so once you know what's going on you can start the tutorial and take control right away, then go through it while the voice talks. However - the text/audio messages aren't tied to any actions occurring, they just go on automatically.
The manual covers pretty much everything, there's a section that walks through every control in the cockpit. It definitely takes a bit of time to learn, but the Ka-50 is simpler than the F-16 modelled in Falcon 4: Allied Force, as an example. The F-16 is much easier to fly though!
The manual is more useful as a reference to solidify what you've learned from the tutorials and just messing around, IMO.
Haven't played 4.5 so I can't compare it. I think jets in general are easier to fly then helicopters. Jets tend to be crammed full of complicated avionics to fiddle with though; the Ka-50 is relatively simple in that regard. No radar so no radar modes, and a much smaller selection of targeting modes (pretty much either "aim with the shkval" or "do it yourself").
What you could do is turn on auto turn to target, is quite easy if your hovering, if you didnt already knew it :P Sorry if you did, just trying to give tips :) Greetz
yeah id like to see some tutorials. Ive just started playing with this sim. I was using the helmet reticule to select my targets ealier. Just been messing around trying to figure it out best i can. These tutorials come in handy.
Yes I skipped the laser, the auto tracking and that whole left panel for now. I might cover it in the next video. (this video shows you the bare minimum required to fire the canon using the Shkval sensor).

realism? simulation? I dont think that IRL every vehicle explodes from machine gun bullets.

Its a 30mm cannon. lol

@Cockoballs1988
It's a 30mm cannon, the same type mounted on the BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle. Plenty of firepower for soft and lightly armored targets.

Flying without trackIR and foot peddles is a pain in the ass. I wish i had a good PC and gear to get the most out of this game...

but how do you pan the view? i cant move the camera with my mouse when i want to flip a switch. really annoying.

@Killatomate85 I use a device called Track IR, but you can set up keyboard view controls in the settings.

Hi, wodo26. First of all, great tutorial. I'd like to know if you are using TrackIR and if so if it's worth buying.

thanks for this tutorial.
But i have a problem to have a good stationary fligth. How do you do ?
I use the ALT+T function, but my BS continue to fligth with high speed, or crashing some time :(

Is there a way to get the shkval to return to centre after blowing up your target without having to reset the whole thing?
zombat 2 years ago
yes there is, there is a special button for it I don't remember what the button is called though
wodo26 2 years ago
There is an function which you should map your stick, you are looking for shkval centre.
Works a treat.

So you don't know if your doing it right or wrong ? Well sounds prity good.
But you do have a 200+page manual right ? Does that teach you anything ?

sldfnslkxxlk 2 years ago
Ok is it also simpeler than the F-16 in falcon 4.5 ? Because I've heard that that's more difficult...
But I think I can manage to fly the Ka-50. But I don't think I'll start with the simulation mode on XD
soundmachine6 2 years ago

Yeah that's right. But it also has to be simple because you need to fly it on your own...
