My friend said this arrangement should be called 'Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 for handicapped people'. she is just so mean! No wonder she doesn't have a boyfriend.. oops ran off toopic
I love you guys! And for everyone else who was oh so kind, let me set the record straight. This was a high school piano concert, not a professional piano concert. Our teacher does not require we memorize ensembles and we do not have loads of time to learn these pieces. Sam and Bryce did an excellent job!
I'm not sure if I like the mix of full grand and baby grand pianos in here, but not to worry, they sound ok, I'm a piano college student too, and I know that once you get on the stage only God knows what is going to happen, hahaha
Well, some very interesting comments about this piece... Here we go!
I'm a professional pianist and have been since I was 14. Yes, 14.
Unprofessional? I suspect these re students trying hard to better their standards of playing and working on pieces that are a little too difficult for them but ultimately improving their playing by definition.
I always play from music. Never, EVER mechanical. I know many pros that use dots. Accompanist Gerald Moore? None better, always with the dots!
Well a nice constructive comment. I just really hope that you don't think you are better than anyone else, because of your "professional pianist" comment. :)
nah, i don't think I'm better than anyone else... I've got plenty (PLENTY) of issues with technique but constructive crit and support is far better than bitching isn't it! lol
Good on you for doing this... it ain't easy and you did a good job. Keep it up and Happy Christmas!
There was little emotion or rubato in that piece of music. It's hard to do rubato in a duo, but it's definitely possible. Maybe memorize the song, and really try to synchronize your feelings?
I really do not know why couldn´t piano players have sheet of notes while they´re playing..(as any other instrument) These laments seems to me silly and childish. However this playing is really...awful, I´m sorry:-)
2. To truly play a piece correctly, they have to focus entirely on what they're playing, not reading the music, in which they have to know the song by heart.
3. It defeats the heroic image of a concert pianist if they need someone else to abet them in playing a piece.
4. For long performances, it would require many page turnings in order to finish said performances.
5. A pianist who needs sheet music in order to play a piece will probably play it very mechanically.
:-) Oh ye, how could I forget the heroic image of pianist:-) Than it would be of course a tragic desecration if he used the sheet of notes:-) But besides that I don´t think that the usage of sheet music automatically means mechanical, uncorrect or less deep-felt playing. Of course if pianist mastered the piece, he should be able to play it by heard, but still, why to not have the sheet of notes in view.. You are simply solving here bullshits, that´s my opinion
Besides, I find really laughable how you all here are enjoying the criticizing of this school couple for such childishnesses as sheets of notes or page turners as if they were Horowitz in Carnegy Hall or what;-) Don´t have other place for expressing your piano egos?:-D
I agree for the most part! Great pianists do play with sheet music in front, BUT they are still able to perform musically, with a number of rehearsals and practices.
The mechanical effect for this is mainly duet to rhythmic strictions, doesn't sound free. In other word, more rehearsals and a discussion of dynamic, rubatos, and characteristics would help lots!
You've got all the notes, time for a further step!!!
Real Piano performances DO NOT use music, or page turners for that matter. This is a pinch pathetic. And lacking any interpretation whatsoever. This video compels me to make my own arrangement of double piano HR2, and to get someone to perform it with me.

Very nice effort, I love the timings and pace. So many people mess this piece up by going to fast and too choppy.
For all those who criticize, these are kids and I think they did a great job.

does anyone have sheet music for this 8-hand arrangement ?? thanks

Though I think it is cruel to dislike this... there are indeed some reasons for me to dislike this.
1) the two piano sound differently due to orientation, the lids should be removed.
2) they barely played the notes in the piece.
I do appreciate their efforts in coordination, but that is not worth a like from me...

That... was pretty poor - there was hundreds of mistakes in that...
You butchered that piece of music... I mean where's the feeling??? Where's the emotion...
Where's the SYNCHRONICITY?????
