I personally like to point out that demolishing a building in a controlled way requires making it completely uninhabitable for months, smashing holes in walls, running detonator cables over floors, etc.
It's not as simple as placing a big bomb somewhere. You have to wrap explosives around support beams to cut them, for example. A big bomb would work to blow the place up, but not for the sort of carefully controlled demolition CTs think it was.

I agree with adopting more principles of non-interventionism after these wars play themselves out. But to leave would be to leave both countries on the verge of civil war. Keep the villages and cities safe, which is exactly what the surge in Iraq accomplished, and the surge in Afghanistan is trying to accomplish, and then people will negotiate with you.

Ron Paul: if you think the solution in Afghanistan is to just walk away than you are ignoring the progress being made in that part of the world. Nation building is highly possible. It happened with a radicalized Japanese poppulation after WW2, a radicalized German poppulation after WW2 etc etc. Poll after poll has shown Afghanees and Iraqis are disllusioned with the Taliban and Al Quaeda. They want peace, stability and jobs. .
