that is mustard oil, used to refresh the customers ears after cleaning, when dipped the q-tip absorbs the liquid and loosens the wound cotton strands on the Q-tip. and of course when you move it around in the ear its going to get more loose and make you think that its a crap load of ear wax.

The first liquid is most likely olive oil used to loosen the wax, and the 2nd liquid is likely mustard seed oil (as it has anti-biotic properties) used to disinfect the ear. Not sure, but I know that olive oil is commonly used to loosen ear wax, and mustard seed oil is very common in India.

In Vietnam, they charge about 50 cents (US) to clean someone's ear at the barber shop. I used to do this for my ex girlfriend, but I didn't use a wooden ear pick. I used a long piece of hair, twisted up, and tied properly so that it could twist firmly inside her ear. When her ear was itchy, she would have me scratch inside her itchy ears with this twisted hair. Believe it or not, it feels 10 times nicer than a wooden ear pick. It's like when your skin is so itchy, and you can scratch it.

In UK a doctor would recommend using olive oil in the ear instead of the store bought eardrops, this apparently loosens hard earwax whereas the store bought eardrops with their chemicals do more harm than good apparently. So I would assume the liquid in the video could be olive oil but its a guess..

I'm a Yank and I grew up with the stuffing of Q tips into ears (due to various ear infections and the use of ointments). This eventually turned to ear scratching, but nowadays I like to use Japanese earpicks (since they, at least, know how to make something for picking ears with, instead of just pooh poohing the practice as being "bad for your health").

Actually, the Japanese ear picks are used by the Japanese due to their genetic difference with their ear wax than caucasians/africans/westerners­.  Their Ear Wax is actually hard, and a pick is necessary to scrape out the ear wax when a cotton swab would do nothing.

By the way, cotton swabs used for the typical western 'wet' ear wax and the wax picks used for the typical east asian 'dry' ear wax are both equally harmful to the ear, more harmful than helpful.

1) Define "harmful to the ear". So far, I stick earmolds into my ear on a routine basis, and those are arguably more "harmful" because I leave THOSE in for hours at a stretch. (I've always been deaf.)

2) Japanese ear picker appears to work better on wet ear wax than a Q tip anyhow, even if it was made for dry wax.

The oil at the end should be mustard oil... the ear cleaners would claim that when applied to the ear canal, the oil "lubricates" (for whatever purpose) it and helps prevent infection (which I doubt so).

Still an interesting video to watch, would be nice if a complete episode of cleaning can be shown...
