If you think that podencos are treated bad in Spain... you would be disgusted of how warthog dogs are treaded, the only thing i dislike of hunting is that they use other animals as slaves
Podencos are wonderful dogs and they deserve a better live as some spanish hunters are able and willing to give them. The worst answer I've ever heard from one of this monsters is that Podencos will be unhappy outside from Spain because they will not go hunting. That is a sheer mockery! I know many Podencos living now in a cultivated environment and they are so thankful. Please adopte Podencos and more important make pressure in a political way. I was often in spain and I saw the horror!
Not only dogs are severely mistreated in Spain. In the name of "tradition", thousands of animals (bulls, birds, donkeys, etc) are tortured during their "fiestas". Look on the internet for Toro de la Vega ,p.e I haven't seen much honor, nor respect for animals in this country. And yes afortunately every day more spaniards are becoming aware that there is still a long, long way to go in animal rights.

My little Hilda is a podenco, she was three months old we she came to Triple A. She came home to me when she was eight months. Now she is four years old and a very happy dog. I feel sorry for the ones whos left in Spain and not treated well.
Our shelter is located in La Linea, Spain. We have more than 200 podencos andaluz in the shelter, now and than a podenco ibicenco. One of our podencos is living in Boston now, the woman who adopted the podenco moved there. You can search for ibizanhoundrescue, or galgonews i know some podencos went to the us, but i think they came and pick them up themselves.
where are some of these rescues located and would they work with me on bringing one of these dogs to the US? i would love to have a pondeco ibeneco and i would love to provide a safe happy home for them and lots of treats

Most people nowadays fight for the animal rights and ask for harder punishments for the people that does this kind of stuff, and for now, we have been able to forbid the Toros in one part of spain, a really HARD issue taking into account that it is an ancient tradition surrounded by all its mithology and such.
As said, we are trying, we just need our governments implication too. Sadly spanish economy is not that strong so it is difficult to get financiation for this matters.
I can't believe that de dog in 5:44 was still alive...poor creature, people that do this to innocent life beings should be killed asap.

He isn´t living with me but I took care of him his first two months here in Finland. I know the family where he lives now. His name is nowadays Mio and he is such a wonderful dog. Learning to sing etc.

in verhouding ( aantal inwoners van een land ) gaan ze in spanje een stuk minder goed om met honden dan in bijv nederland . dat is een feit .
geklukkig verandert er sinds de laatste jaren wat en zijn er spanjaarden die zich inzetten voor het dier , in dit geval een hond.
een hele goede ontwikkeling. Het is laf om dieren zo te behandelen , en het zegt niks over grootmoedigheid , trots , loyaliteit of beschaafdheid.

Dit is zo vreselijk schokkend om te zien,
het is gruwelijk. Ik ben zo woedend op die Spanjaarden die dit flikken met die arme hulpeloze honden. Ik kom er niet bij met mijn verstand dat mensen tot zoiets in staat zijn, deze mensen zijn de grootste monsters op aarde, hopelijk komen zij ook op een gruwelijke wijze aan hun einde, want dat is hun verdiende loon.

This must be stopped! We are in Europe in 2010.. this is worse than the dark ages.. WE MUST GET THE SPANISH PEOPLE TO REACT TO TELL THEIR GOVERNMENT "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" iI look at my two podencos lying in the sofa having a siesta and I feel sick when I think of their cousins in Spain!!
