Hakeem Olajuwon: The best center ever. Wilt was a great scorer but who was tall enough to guard him back then? Kareem was amazing but he certainly didn't have the guard-like skills that Hakeem possessed. Hakeem #1 in blocks, #1 in center-assists, #1 in center-steals. Great player who did it against some of the best centers in NBA history.
@vaibanez17 I agree, he played against the best big men in the league at the time. He was also one of the very few who have ever recorded a quadruple double. nuff said haha
@vaibanez17 ,Walt Bellamy,Nate Thurmond,Walter Dukes,Bill Russell,Jabbar,Bob Lanier, Willis Reed, these are a few Wilt's competitors, they were tall enough and great. Wilt played against the best centers ever, which is why he is # 1,WIlt is number 1 in blocks, and Wilt did lead the league in assists,WIlt once averaged 21ppg,32reb,10asst,12blks in a series vs the 6'10 Bill Russell
@vaibanez17 Wilt wasn't even the tallest center in the league, there were some 6'10 guys playing center but there were also quite a few 7 footers and he was only 7'1. Hakeem is a beast though, one of the top 4 centers of all time. Probably the most complete one.
@Loudmouf84 I don't know if I'd say of ALL TIME but they were probably the second best team of the '90s after the Bulls. The reason I say this is because of teams like the '72 Lakers with West/Chamberlain, the '60s dynasty Celtics of Cousy/Russell, the '80s Celtics of Bird/McHale/Parish/Johnson, the '80s Lakers of Magic/Kareem/Worthy, the Spurs of Duncan/Parker/Robinson/Ginobili, or Lakers of Kobe/Shaq or Kobe/Gasol. And of course the Jordan/Pippen Bulls.
@sumskater999 I'd put this Rockets team in the same category as those other teams. I'm not saying they are or aren't better than any of those teams, but they're in the same discussion, and I'd bet money they woulda beat a few of those teams in a game or in a series. The had a solid team at every position and were led by Hakeem.... The Dream
@sumskater999 Ah, the memories of growing up in L.A. in the '80s watching Lakers basketball. Moved to Houston in '95 and got to ride the Rockets wave.
Rhetorically, what happened to the sport? It just doesn't seem the same as it once was. Pulling "kids" out of college or even before? I dunno. *shrug* I do miss it.
I can't believe I'm reading someone saying Jordan failed on this post. I notice a lot of people debate, but don't know shit about basketball. I actually play basketball at a higher level and a lot of these comments don't make fucking sense.
@bdowden23 lol mikenotnumber1 is a joke. His bunghole has been vulcanized by many a youtube commenter. Just ignore. It's like explaining the theory of evolution to a creationist.
@mikenotnumber1 Hello troll. Refusal to be a leader? You mean when he was a young guy leading the league in scoring, taking home MVP's and DPoY awards, and getting pretty far in the playoffs? How many guys were winning that early in their careers then? No one is looking for sympathy, just stating facts. And as far as being a pussy, well you are what you eat. One day, some woman may be desperate enough to let you put it in her as well, then perhaps you won't be so angry.
@MrTheBeast Meh, he came back with only a small portion of the season left after being gone for nearly two years. MJ clearly wasn't back in game shape when he returned. The very next season the Bulls returned to form and continued their dominance. It's difficult to say what would have happened if MJ doesn't retire. The Rockets might not even have made the finals those two years, as the seeding would have been different.
@bdowden23 Check the game logs/stats from those games that Jordan played in 1995. "Clearly wasn't back in game shape" is factually incorrect, in fact Jordan outperformed his own standards during that period.
@navyblueandwhite01 Really? His numbers were at their lowest points. Check the numbers again, I think you misread something. We'll sandwich the two years between Jordan's comeback as an example. 92/93 MJ scored 32.6 points per game on 49.5 % from the field. 95/96 saw MJ return to form with 30.4 points a game on 49.5% from the field again. 94/95 MJ scored the fourth lowest average of his career with 26.9, on a career low 41.1 % from the field.
@navyblueandwhite01 So, let's reevaluate your statement. You said that Jordan outperformed his own standards, which is pretty ridiculous. In fact, the only three times he scored less were his Wizards days, and the year he sat out most of the season with a bad injury. He also shot a career low from the field by a pretty wide margin. AND, every year with the exception of 94/95, and his rookie year, MJ led the league in playoff scoring average.
@navyblueandwhite01 Never mind the difficulty with team chemistry, after reinserting a prominent player into the lineup with only 17 games left in the season. For MJ to acclimate himself back to the speed of the NBA after being away for two years and play the way he did was extraordinary. But let's not kid ourselves and say things that are clearly refuted by statistical evidence.
@frusionnn I agree with pkbosslac. Both of those Rocket teams should either give Mike and Scottie their rings, or retire thoses two guys jerseys as a thank you.
@FuShengAlex not correct, obviously. Rockets had a dominate center, who dominated Shaq. Bulls were a guard and forward dominate team that dominated Orlando's weak 2's and 3's. Shaq and Penny use to kill mike and scottie, but bulls wouldn't let anyone else score. As I remember, anderson and scott missed how many free throws in that series?
Well pkbosslac I mistakenly thought you were one of these Jordan Jocker trolls poking fun at our 2 titles......forgive me for being a jackass....lolol.
LOL@pkbosslac "Hakeem entered the NBA the same year as Jordan. They played eachother many times"
Yeah and MJ got swatted by Dream more than any NBA player he ever faced. I guess he was better off showboating against those (L)eastern Conference Centers. MJ a career loser vs. Hakeem and the Rockets head 2 head.
I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS SHOT!!! I went ape s*** when i saw it!!! Olajuwon is easily one of the top 5 most dominant centers if not top 5 greatest centers ever!!!
@xxscrimagexx ill do you one better. if jordan would have never retired he would have split a championship series with Olajuwon and the Rockets. Jordan NEVER and I mean NEVER went against not only a dominant center but a center who got as many steals as Hakeem did

You're mistaken my friend. Hakeem Olajuwon is actually 6' 10". Please review the Twin Tower era when Olajuwon stands next to Ralph Samson. Olajuwon is actually much shorter. Olajuwon skill wise is better than Robinson due to his agility of being smaller -- and faster, both hands and foot work. His spin around baseline "killer" Dream shake fade away is unstoppable. I remember the 52 points game he had in the early 90's... so awesome.

What's the difference? Older Bbal fans will always claim the older players were better than all the newer players. It's the same thing dude.
I personally don't consider many of the current NBA players to be "great", but there are about dozen guys that are extremely good, and likely top 100 all time players (or will be when they're done playing). Many of them would be top 50 too. LeBron for example, Duncan, Garnett. Even Kobe, despite clearly not being as good as Jordan.
Lol Kornkid Too bad Yao's hurt, no one in there right mind would trade amare and barbosa for T-mac, and rubio went to the t-wolves, he's gonna be trash anyways.

No offense to Shaq fans, but I never liked him, he never did anything that involved skill, he was just stronger than other centers. He could never consistantly score outside 6 feet from the basket. He was just big stupid.
and with that brute strength he shoots at a 59% clip and has 4 championship rings.
It's interesting cuz in basketball you get shit if you don't "put it up strong" but here it seems like you guys are giving shit for not being pretty enough.
he dunks about half of his attempts, the other shots are all lay-ins, or right handed hook shots. And his offensive skill set is much better than Dwight Howard's. Plus block shots factor in for misses, so anytime shaq gets blocked or the ball tipped when he's fouled and missed... all count as missed shots.
Don't get me wrong, hes' def. better than Howard, he's ALL dunks but in this day of no real centers he can get away with it and get called the best center in the game, I think it's Yao but he's not a slam dunk winner so ppl are gonna argue. Even though he owns Howard heads up, better shooter, free throw shooter and a lot more offensive power. Howard is athletic, so dunks, rebounds and blocks come naturally. Just saying Shaq gets more dunks than anybody. If u go to Dream's vids, he has many moves.
yeah shaq get's dunks cause he plays to his strengths...which happens to be..his strength. Yao is a better shooter than all the centers but he might not be able to even play again because he keeps breaking his foot. Howard is superathletic.... he is extremely gifted and will be a beast.... and yeah the Dream shake was the best in the business for overall post moves.
It not right to give one person all of the credit for winning. Though 36ppg on 59% shooting, 15rpg, 2.9 blocks a game and 3 Finals MVPs go a long ways in winning 3 rings.
If it was only because he was strong why is it Kevin Duckworth (who had a comparatively superior jump hook and shot over 70% from the line) never averaged 20ppg? More 290-300+ sized guys would have had more success in the NBA. Shooting is only ONE skill and yes, he is not great at it, but he is very good for a center at many others such as passing, ball handling and post moves. It also takes great mental toughness to endure the pain that comes with playing at that size for 17 years.
Is this the 1995 FInals where Olajuwon totally dominated Shaq by scoring like 38ppg in the series, and a young agile Shaq at that, not the fat slow Shaq of today.
First of all, Olajuwon = Hakeem, and Chamberlain was playing in an era where he was surrounded by white people, very unathletic people. No racism but that's how it is.
@thedawg385 Umm Olajuwon had some the best big men and players in the Nba when he was playing, he came in Jordans class and had to play against players like David Robinson, Charles Barkley, Shaq, Kevin Mchale, and even Kareem..That was for only Wilt Chamberlain where he was playing with garbage people - thats why he averaged 34 points and 27 rebounds per game in his first year and averaged 50 and 24 in his 2nd year
Was that shot necessary?
