I was watching the show Lockup:RAW, a show about inmates in the US Penal sistem, and there was a man, id say 50-60, and he was playing this strange electric guitar, it had a very worn look, kind of scrappy. it turns out, he got to take shop class because of good behavior, and he made guitars out of model boat kits. the one hw as holding (a bit smaller body than yours) was made from 5 boat kits, some speakers, and he was using pieces of an old credit card for a pick. it sounds like fun.

A old high school buddy of mine has a son that made a couple of bass guitars in his woodworking class. They apparently are superb instruments. The kid has a natural talent and no doubt there are more like him. Why do we need mass produced guitars from China? Some folks don't have much money and that's all they can afford, I appreciate that. But it would be great to see more locally made guitars here in North America and elsewhere.

careful with thin bodies. cause you might loose the tone, you need to get specific kinds of wood, blackmachine guitars are shin and keep hold of the woods natural tone, you should check what kind of wood they use

There's a DVD "A Comlete Custom Electric Guitar" out there too, runs to 3h 26m (preview on YouTube if you search for it). Always better to see how to do it rather than trying to follow instructions in a book.

Depends, philwb. If you make the neck it will take quite a lot longer than if you buy a neck. My first guitar(I bought the neck) took 3-4 months but my second guitar (made the through neck) took 8-9.
