  • Big Chief rocks. 2011 and he still kickass.

  • Good, but not as good as the Statler Brothers.

  • Big Chief set the standard....no question.

  • We have in Holland the Deep River Quartet. Watch them on youtube.

  • There are 2 other verses to the song that they left out----Hovie & "The Boys" are the best!!

  • Where's Jake????

  • This was after Jake left to form the Imperials.

  • Sounds a little like Have a little talk with Jesus, doesn´t it ?

  • It does!

  • Yes it does!

  • @Kaiserbass1 It sure does! Lordy, I thought I was the only one who remembered that song. My parents and uncle used to sing that song when I was a kid.

  • I like the Goodmans version better, sorry

  • Thats because you don't know the Statesmen.

  • Big Chief! The best!!

  • Big Chief. The best vocal ever on this song, by Big Chief.

  • Again, Chief was one of a kind - and had this wonderful "rhythmical" style which enabled him to do some really unique things with his voice. The Statesmen videos on YouTube are priceless.

  • Here is the only true authentic bass singer in the history of Gospel Music. The rest are carbon copies.

  • I'm not discounting the greatness of Big Chief - or the Statesmen, Blackwood Brothers, etc. - but there are other basses, such as one of the most understated in Gospel Music - like Norm "Huxie" Huxman of Legacy (fmr. bass for Whitey Gleason & Jubilee Qt) London Parris, Big John Hall, Brock Speer, & a host of others. Look up Whitey Gleason on YouTube - you'll see what I mean!

  • I have heard them all. Big Chief is the standard. Everyone else is a copy, some bad copies.

  • No one could possibly copy him - because he developed a style that was his alone - Finesse, depth, and wonderful stage presence - were his - I'll give him that & respect. But - when I think of bass singers who have that true musical sound to their voice - pleasing to the ear...G Younce always comes to mind - along with the others I mentioned previously, such as N. Huxman - pure class, & Gerald W. of the M. Boys, who is better than ever - These guys are "singer's singers".

  • I wrote a Dove nominated song for Younce. He was fine. But none to compare to Chief.

  • That shut drucie62 up didn't it!

  • I've Seen George & Brock both. Each has their own style. I wasn't alive when Chief

was around but, the gaithers & Youtube has help me become a fan. Chief set the standard for the rest.

  • Let's not forget George Younce.

  • Big Chief sounds extra good on this one!

  • I love them....and this songs are great....Thanks for posting....God bless you!

  • I've shouted all over the church several times during congregational singing when they get to singing this old hymn. What a day it will be just to be done with troubles and trials. Glory to God!

  • WOW! I love the clarity and harmony of this group. No others can even compare.

  • The only thing I don't like about this video is that it's just not long enough.

  • Simply the best! Big Chief delivery the lead with smoothness and clearity, while Rosie, Jack, and Doy fill in the melody. Then Rosie takes it up and octave while the Big Chief continues on with the lead, while Jack and Doy keep the harmony intact!

  • You cannot listen to this and not be happy!!!

  • Love the old stuff !!! Thanks for your

    upload !!! <3

  • This was just great..loved every note of it.

  • What harmonizing!

  • Thank you. I love this video.

  • WOW! wonderful! Where did you fing this? awesome!

I left you a video response with Oh What a Savior. But no one could sing it like old Rose!

    Lil' Robert

  • Praise God....the Best!

  • Gosh, I thought that no one could do it better than the Goodmans but this is so close.

  • GOD BLESS YOU for posting this good Godly music.

  • Whoa is right! Chief had it all!

  • Whoa.

  • Amen! This is true Southern gospel glory ;)

  • I love it.

    Thanks.

    Brother Don

  • That is a wonderful song, God Bless!
