  • Oh and by the way, Johnny, you're doing it wrong. You're whipping your arms way too far out to the side, not to mention, half of the workout is in slow retraction. You're coming back way too fast.  You need to push straight out slowly, hold, then retract slowly, without going all the way back, hold and repeat.

  • As a trainer myself, I always get a good kick out of people saying Bowflex is weak. They don't know what they're talking about. Comparing Bowflex and free weights is silly because they serve two completely different purposes. Free weights are meant to increase muscle mass and strength. Bowflex is meant to cut fat and build lean muscle. The misconception people have is that buying a bowflex will make you look like Arnold. It's not for that. It's to make you look like Bruce Lee.

  • Bowflex doesn't equal the same as free weights so if ur doin 310 on a bowflex it's really only like 190. I realized that when I would workout in the weight room I would bench 200 and thn I used a bowflex and put 200 and it was so easy so I maxed it out to the 310 I can't bench 310 lbs on free weights

  • @rcw03 are you at an incline when you bench free weights? there is a BIG difference. the Bowflex doesnt require a spotter and you can go slow and smooth pushing AND lowering the weights. the incline on the Bowflex probably has alot to do with your statement as it is more difficult pushing all that weight straight up (and more strenuous) than when sitting on an incline. it is designed to be a healthier way to work the pecs. try lifting the 310 on Bowflex laying flat on your back with no incline.

  • im 14 years old and i have the bowflex extreme 2, i can do the 310 pound bench press exercise about 10-11 reps before my arms breakdown,no doubt hes stronger than me but still... ill upload a video of me doin it after i get my comp fixed, btw its 310 pounds not 315, the weights on each side are 5 10 10 30 50 50 if you add those up =155 155+155=310, so yea regular weights are so much better than bowflex but its still good exercise

  • I got a bow flex too. Gotta admit, the shits pretty weak. I'm a small guy and I max everything on it minus triceps pull down. For a real workout gotta use the iron.

Free weights not only require you to lift the weight on a specific muscle group, but will also, unlike a machine, recruit various muscle groups to help stabilize the weight being lifted. There is no problem combining machines and free weights, but free weights are the most physically effective. Peace.

  • I am 6'2 and weigh 180 lbs... i am not ripped by no means and i just got my bowflex and i can do 310 on it and that is the max amount of weight on mine, but can only bench 180 on a barbell so its way easier on the bowflex but it seems to me bowflex builds muscle better simply because of the way it is engineered people have to grow a brain and realize its not how much weight that is used in building muscle its how much you need to overload your muscle and everyone is going to be different...

  • Try getting the Power rod Upgrade to 410Lbs and then put 3 50lb Power rods either side and then do say 3 sets of 10-12 reps to Momentary muscular Failure at a slow pace 3 seconds up 3 seconds down.Then try 3 sets of 200lb flys done with the same slow motion and then 3 sets of cable cross overs with 260lb again keep it slow.You might even get results from this type of training.Stop training like a bunch of Girlyboys and enter the real world.Let us Aussies show you what training is all about.
