  • HOW DARE THEY TEAR DOWN SUCH A "HISTORICAL" BUILDING!! SUCH AN OLD LANDMARK PLACE?:???????????? SCREW THE MORONS WHO OK THIS HORRENDOUS MOVE! MORE RUINATION OF OUR HOME TOWN-ABSOLUTE IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!q

  • that was ok

  • dude the mayor is just stupid relly tho ima move to maplewood or something

  • Can anyone fill me in on the Chanticler being torn down for condos? When is that supposed to happen and what about the affairs that are booked there????

  • ya dude thats like stupid now there r gonna be ppl living rite next to the high school

  • What a great campaign Mike. It makes perfect sense in today's economy to wait until the time is right to build. I say keep Millburn historical and charming the way it is.

  • Thankyou for bringing this to the attention of the community. It sounds like a bad idea.

  • Millburn, like all similar NJ suburban Downtowns need to redevelop it's downtown in order to remain afforable into the future. The train station is an asset that needs to be developed in a way which minimizes the use of the automobile and encourages the use of mass transit. There should be a large paking garage wrapped with housing and retail on the ground floor. Downtown development in towns with a train line will relieve the pressure to sprawl into the outer ring suburbs. NIMBY is selfish!

  • 18 children? No way. It'll be more like 180 children and another addition on the middle school and high school costing the tax payers tons.

  • I moved to Short Hills in 1994. Then, the huge structure and parking lot where Saks Fifth Avenue was, was empty. Today, 14 years later, nothing has changed. Why do we need to pull buildings down and erect ugly multi storey structures? Cant the existing ex Saks Fifth space be used/sold for usable space?

  • The Saks Fifth Avenue store is currently owned by Springfield, NJ and has been put on the board for redevelopment for some time. However, street access to the building is on the Millburn side of the street and thus, Millburn has some problems with what business goes into that building. It's not that there was a lack of effort, there are just some other issues affecting the redevelopment.

  • What gets me is the complaint about the taxes in Millburn. Considering the tax revenues Millburn gets from the Short Hills mall, Millburn is probably the only tax reasonable community in Essex county NJ. Interesting that the Chanticler is being turned into Condos, but hey how many catering joints with a romantic view of a Shell station do you need?

  • "Tax reasonable?" Millburn is just as taxed if not more so as other communities in Essex Cty. It is driving people away from the town and affecting our property values already. I am suspicious of HIDDEN COSTS to the residents (additional students in the apts? other items if businesses fail? relocation of town dump?) of this plan.

  • Good job, folks of Milburn. Keep this lovely town as is. Do not turn this into a typical US city. Milburn is what it is now as a result of of its charm and easy going atmosphere.

  • hey Mike! How come you didn't play that song that DaVido wrote and recorded called "we love Milburn". It would've been a great ending to this video. Please play that song. Incidentally, you all are the Elvis of Milburn.

  • Our organization -- with helpful advice from several of your officers at WeLoveMillburn -- got started just about a year ago. The ravages of a failed Redevelopment plan, including years of litigation over its eminent-domain-for-private-gain aspects, were among the issues which spurred our group's formation.

Good luck as you demand answers to the hard questions.

  • Great way to get out the message about a proposed project that doesn't have the legs to stand on its own. Agree with the comment below that the Millburn officials should talk with livingston about how its redevelopment went and about how it manages vacancies. This is the worng plan at the wrong time.

  • Sounds like this is more of a resume-builder than a town-builder. To move forward with such an unnecessary -- yet potentially detrimental and costly -- plan at this point in time, with so little research/data, is reckless, or merely self-serving. What's the truth to this redevelopment? Who wants/needs it to happen and why? Have they been to the mall? How many mom and pop retailers have the resources to make a go of it in this economy? How many apartments do we need?

  • Thanks for making this video. I hope everyone who sees it sends it to their friends to spread the word. I want to know if the people in our town government even have a clue of what's going on in this economy? And have they noticed the vacant stores in town or the overcrowded schools? Just what Millburn needs. Vacant too tall, cookie cutter monstrosities in downtown. The plan doesn't even add enough parking spaces to meet current needs. What are they thinking?

  • Excellent video! Who are the out-of-touch masterminds of this un-needed, potentially disastrous waste of money? I've lived in Millburn 23 years, have seen the population quadruple, the traffic get bad and the schools get overcrowded. Who needs nonsense like this? Stop planning to ruin Millburn completely!! No one wants condos here! No one wants parking decks here! No one wants people with 'big plans' to suck the charm out of a town like this!!!! To those planners: GET LOST!!!

  • I have an idea, Livingston redevoloped the Town Center, a project that is not that different than what is being proposed. Maybe we can get the town of Livingston or the people they used to give us more information that we may find usualful and answer some of these legitimate questions being asked. I have been there and it is a very nice. I am no expert but it looks very sucessful to me. What did that cost the town if anything.

  • I have been to several of the meetings and can't figure out why this development plan is needed or how it even got started in the first place. It just seems like the timing is off and the need not there. Maybe bike lanes or widening sidewalks but condos and more retail and risk - not for me.

  • GREAT VIDEO!!!! I agree that the Downtown Redevelopment Plan has not been studied sufficiently. Though lots of money has been spent on expert studies, the experts avoid or do not answer the many obvious problems pointed out in this video. When in doubt, don't. . .
