Yeah Chevy can build a decent small block, but they've never built anything that comes close to the REAL 426 HEMI. Why build a 700hp small block thats gonna blow in 20 000 miles, when you can have a fire-breathing, legend for over 45 years, race proven, 426 that has been kicking ass for ever. Remeber when Chevrolet had to go out of its way to develop the ZL1 camaros, that costed just $4000 for the aluminum 427, when they could have bought a 426 Hemi Dart or Barracuda and kicked the ZL1's ass.
The motors they put into the new Mustangs, Camaro's and Corvettes do produce alot of hp with decent mileage but I miss the gut rumbling, ground vibrating sound of the old engines. My son has a 1977 Corvette and I find myself smiling every time I hear him 'fire it up"...Oh Yeah!

Agreed. Dodge made a good 5.7L Hemi engine, but they just fucked up the stock intake and stock exhaust on 3rd generation Rams. Seriously, you put even a low-priced aftermarket intake and and a cheap glass-pack on, and the difference is night and day. A short-air ram intake (K&N) and dual flowmasters is even better. Also, the fuel/air ratio can be improved.

Bottom like is if you take care of your vehicle it should last a long time no matter who makes it. It all depends on what mood the assembly line workers were in when they built your vehicle!

Chrysler wasn't the only vehicle manufacturer to produce the hemispherical head or "Hemi" engine and definitely not the first to do so. Most automobile manufacturers have phased out hemispherical heads due to the significant emissions drawbacks, including Dodge. That truck included. The current production "New Hemi" does not contain hemispherical heads, but old polyspherical technology from the 50's. Aka cheaper production cost and less metal. It's all advertising that idiots buy into.

Chevy does indeed make the better small blocks. You just can't beat 400+ horsepower with mid-20's on the highway. Lots of torque, lots of horsepower, and average highway fuel economy makes SBC the best small blocks out there. Also, Hemi just refers to the combustion chamber, that's it.
THANK GOD someone finally gets it. Looking at the combustion chambers, they're efficient but not truly hemispherical. They're closer in design to the old 429 Boss engines built by Ford in the day.

Making it a 427 cid... there can be a big block that is as small as a 351ci.. and a smallblock as big as 441 ci.. maybe even more.. smallblock doesnt mean cmall cubic inches, Its more convenient making big cubes out of a physically smaller block engine..
the new LS7 is a all aluminum small block rated at 505hp. it is only available in the Z06 corvette. it gets more than 20 mpg on the hwy.
the newest chevy motor is the LS9. it is also a all aluminum small block. it makes 638hp. this month HOTROD mag features putting it in a 69 camaro with long tube headers and no cats. it turned 701hp at the crack - STOCK MOTOR. chevy builds the best small blocks period

@studpuppy69 No, I have owned Ford and it was a good truck as well. An 85 F150 with well over 200,000 miles on it and it still ran strong. Bottom like is if you take care of your vehicle it should last a long time no matter who makes it. It all depends on what mood the assembly line workers were in when they built your vehicle!

@fordmuscle429 Al Bundy drove a Dodge. The only half decent thing Dodge has going is their truck line with a Cummins. Yeh, it may not be as powerful as others but reliability and ease of maintenance I'll give it to the engine, not the truck. Ford, Hyundai have upped their game, Chrysler/Dodge is business as usual. Honda/Toyota never had any problems. GM is hit or miss, 4L60E pile of shit trans and 5.7's throwing rods, no thanks!

Chrysler wasn't the only vehicle manufacturer to produce the hemispherical head or "Hemi" engine and definitely not the first to do so. Most automobile manufacturers have phased out hemispherical heads due to the significant emissions drawbacks, including Dodge. That truck included. The current production "New Hemi" does not contain hemispherical heads, but old polyspherical technology from the 50's. Aka cheaper production cost and less metal. It's all advertising that idiots buy into.

Chevy does indeed make the better small blocks. You just can't beat 400+ horsepower with mid-20's on the highway. Lots of torque, lots of horsepower, and average highway fuel economy makes SBC the best small blocks out there. Also, Hemi just refers to the combustion chamber, that's it.

Its a smallblock. It has a 4.125" bore and 4" stroke...with 8 cylinders.. Making it a 427 cid... there can be a big block that is as small as a 351ci.. and a smallblock as big as 441 ci.. maybe even more.. smallblock doesnt mean cmall cubic inches, Its more convenient making big cubes out of a physically smaller block engine..

the new LS7 is a all aluminum small block rated at 505hp. it is only available in the Z06 corvette. it gets more than 20 mpg on the hwy.
the newest chevy motor is the LS9. it is also a all aluminum small block. it makes 638hp. this month HOTROD mag features putting it in a 69 camaro with long tube headers and no cats. it turned 701hp at the crack - STOCK MOTOR. chevy builds the best small blocks period
