  • He wrote poetry: I have the book. I like this poem:

    It hurts your heart

    And softens your soul

    When you see a man

    Die.

    Long before

    Even before

    Only before

    He is old.

    He wrote that.

  • That's a coincidence, I just watched that episode of Rising Damp on ITV 3 where he comes out of the wardrobe pretending to sleep walk.

  • she is a white hot goddess

her father was a great actor

    sadly missed

    rip rb

  • awesome interview hed have done great things shame he died so young god bless him xxxx

  • The clip at 4.24 is from Last Summer (1977) which was part of the ITV Playhouse series. A great film and a very different role for Richard. Has anyone got a copy by any chance? Please contact me if you have.

  • She's so posh...You wouldn't think her dad came from Birmingham :D

  • KATE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD

  • she's so natural and beaty!

  • He'd be so proud of his beautiful daughter's success, i grew up watching rising damp, porridge and he had great comic timing while not looking forced at all, very natural, such a nice bloke - thanks for uploading !

  • i could imagine richard in eastenders now he would have been fantastic in it

  • Porridge and rising Damp were iconic English comedy programs of the 70’s...they dont make them like that anymore

  • Richard was so fantastic, much loved and very much missed.

  • did she (kate) say at 3:19 'he adored kate'?

  • @ForeverRacist

    No, that wasn't her voice.

I think it was the voice of the woman with the blonde hair who was speaking just before.

  • Wonderful and touching. Apart from acting skills, kate certainly good her Dad's looks too !

  • From 3:08-3:27, seeing Kate and Richard Beckinsale together in those loving, heartwarming moments is priceless. Kate has done a wonderful job of upholding her father legacy. Not only as one of the top british actresses, but transcending her talent and fame to the U.S.

  • Is she high?

  • I only watched the Porridges and Rising Damp recently. I wish Id seen them sooner. Theres lots of 70s shows that I remember watching in my childhood but sadly neither of them was one.

The interview with Kate Beckinsale nearly made me cry. Its so cruel to lose a parent at such a young age. I lost my Mum and 18. I can only be grateful i wasnt any younger.

  • Richard would have been one of this countrys greatest stars had he lived. A great tragedy. I remember him in the lovers, pure genius. He was the man who every mother wanted for a son, every man wanted as a mate, every girl wanted as a boyfriend, he had that rare unique charisma about him.

  • I think he is very proud of his lilttle girl it good that we can still see his acting in many things . . . .

  • wow when i watched this, it made me think what if kate beckinsale died. that would be absolutely terrible!

  • @hanksta987

    uh???

  • what the truth is i would be extremely sad. i love her a lot she is my favorite actress.

  • He was a lovely guy. Now, he became an angel in the sky.

  • Richard, was indeed a very good actor, here in Holland, we liked him as well, i fell in love with him, in the seventies, hiii. We never will forget him.

  • Great actor.

  • Great actor loved his friendly way especially between Fletch and Godber

  • He would have been really proud of her.

  • Really sad. He was a great actor and so is she. He would have been so proud of her.

  • I remember when he died it was a great loss !

  • Poor Richard Beckinsale, he was a great actor!

  • Richard Beckinsale apparently had a heart condition since birth

  • no, apparently he had been worried about high cholesterol and they think he had an undiagnosed heart condition. but as far as anyone knows, he didn't take drugs and didn't drink heavily, it was a real tragedy, he was so lovely :(

  • @dragonfitter nope he had congenital heart defect from a young age and thats why he had a massive heart attack

  • What a tragic loss for the world of comedy, his family and his fans. And so young too. RIP Richard. You were one of the greats.

  • Rip: A True comic!

  • Superb clips, I have just read his biography

and it all makes sense, he is sadly missed

and will always be remembered by future

generations, he will always be 31, forever

    young, RIP Richarb Beckinsale.

  • shes does i bit, well not stoned, but shes so beautiful ,who cares, lol. Well i dont think it appart to a lot of poeple who her father is, i didnt know till later

  • i was actually wondering how she felt, ive always wondered., cos its always in her face so to speak. shes gr8 actress and it must be dam hard at times. rip richard one of the most well know father/ daughters in TV

  • gr8 actor!

  • so loved and so missed!

  • this is so sad, i didn't know that her dad died at such a young age...

  • Yeah, I second that. BBC America doesn't run any good comedies anymore. It's all bad dramas and reality shows. The only way I was able to watch Porridge was by buying some copied dvds. It was worth it though. Richard was also great in Rising Damp. I actually like him in Rising Damp, better than in Porridge, and he was wonderful in Porridge.

  • i really wish the BBC America would run the Porriidge episodes. it's a great show. we, in america, didn't get to know Richard Beckinsale except through Kate. i love her. i think she's a great talent and it's great to see her carrying on and embrassing the acting world and, not only making a name for herself, but also sort of honoring her father as well. i'm sure he's very proud of her.

  • Heres a bit of trivia. Many people think Richard Beckinsale died after making the Porridge film, but he was shooting a film for ATV called Bloody Kids. His part was taken over by Gary Holton but there are some scenes left in with Richard driving a BMW up Southend High Street.

  • Yeah, the clip @ 4:25-45 is actually an out-take from Bloody Kids. It would have been interesting seeing him in a gritty drama like that.

  • Are you sure that's from Bloody Kids? He doesn't look like he's playing the same part as Gary Holton in that clip as he looks too smartly dressed. He looks more like the character played by Derrick O Connor who was the plain clothes police officer in the film. I've got to get to the bottom of this as it was in an interview with Stephen Poliakof that I learned that RB was in that film.

  • My mistake, the clip is actually from a BBC TV film called 'Last Summer' (1976). It was also directed by Stephen Frears, and 'Bloody Kids' would've been their second film together. It's another gritty drama and Richard played a London gangster apparently ... I'd be very curious to see it! His career seemed to be heading in a really interesting direction.

  • Richard Beckinsale, a wonderful, wonderful

    actor.

  • One of the reasons we love and only wish success for Kate. Along with the fact that she is beautiful and stylish and demure and (as we now know) smooth as a baby...

    Oooo - errr..

  • He died so young. It's hard to grow up without a Dad. I know since mine died when I was born. Thanks for sharing this video, cwbellor10.
