Had this LP back in the early 70's got it from a hippy in T.O.Had it stolen in the 80's in the Hammer.Fuck I love this album.Gotta get this again.I think this is the LP that made me get a WahWah pedal..LOL OH YA Purple double barrel cid and 4or5 hours wahwahing out in the basement with my buddy Bob on the drums. This is the chit...man...
People at the time reacted to Electric Mud as a "psychedelic" album. It's not. It's a funk and hip-hop album. Add in a few samples, and you basically have the first four Public Enemy albums. Chuck D loves Electric Mud for a reason. And Pete Cosey on guitars? Yeeehh!! This album just kicks on vinyl.
@Gozertgozer Damn right. I never heard this 'updated' Muddy stuff before - had read about it and it's always spoken of pretty dismissively but if this is typical then it's not too shabby at all.
Blind Dog Fulton aka Willie Brown to Eugene: Look at this old guitar here you been squeakin' on. I bet you saw this thing in a music store and bought it just because you thought it was beat up! Well you got it all wrong. Muddy Waters invented electricity.
Pete Cosey says that during the session for Electric Mud, Muddy kept looking at him and his big guitar amp and effects pedals and saying "I dunno about all this, boy, I dunno". Well, the album came out, and was such a big hit, that Leonard Chess decided to do a second psychedelic Muddy record, which was called After The Rain. When Pete showed up for the second session, Muddy called to him and said "Get in her and play some more that shit like you did on the last record!".
it's called Howlin wolf album (psichedelic blues 1968)...you can easily recognize it 'cause on the cover there is written: "this is Howlin wolf new album. he doesn't like it. He didn't like hi electric guitar at first either"
Pete Cosey also played on the Howlin' Wolf record. He said that for that one Wolf told him to "Take your wah wah and your fuzztone and the rest of that shit and throw it in the river while you're on your way to the barber". Apparently, Wolf didn't just like Pete's effects pedals, he also didn't like Pete's long hair and beard.
To be precise, he played guitar on Agharta, Pangaea, Dark Magus and Get Up With It. It was an article in Guitar Player to promote the CD reissue of Pangaea back in 1990 or whenever it was that he told the story about playing on Electric Mud and After The Rain. For what it's worth, Cosey also played on The Howlin' Wolf Album, saying that Wolf told him he could "Throw the wah wah and the fuzztone in the river on the way to the barber".
Such a cool album.

Electric Mud is one of the best albums that Mud has ever done. It's blues, rock, gospel , hip hop and trip hop. Some really good players.

With this LP, Hendrix's sound was born. The only one who didn't liked the records was Muddy Waters himself. He still thought acoustic was THE shit.

i've got this album, which totaly awesome!!
But the guitarist playing during these songs isn't Muddywaters. This is Peter Cosey!
Those musician were "lent" to Muddy by Chess to create this album.
Howling Wolf did make an album with them too.
