@ta2joe13 What I don't get is everyone tries to tell me how smart these things are. You can't even housetrain them, they always have to diaper them. Even a bird can tell it's baby is dead. Seems like they are real stupid to me. I've seen macaques in the wild abandon their babies because water wasn't available. The whole troop just took off running and the 3 babies couldn't keep up. They either become prey, or die of dehydration. These things are terrible parents.
@Ashurap You are right. It's a female that either had taken the infant from it's mother, or the mother had been moved or had died. Some zoos think that females will raise another's infant, but usually they end up killing the baby. It's quite common in nature that the babies get killed if mama rejects, or abandoned the infant for reasons known only to the monkeys. This female is not nursing, so it's not the mother.

@macartney73 i know i hate these thing sooo much. i love all other animals but when it comes to monkeys i could torture and kill them all day long and not feel the slightest bit of remorse what so ever
It is a sad but beautiful reminder of a mother's devotion to her child. At one place in the video, while she has her head turned away, her body shudders several times almost as if she is sobbing. I suppose she was just making monkey sounds, though.
Wish we knew the rest of the story. Did she finally leave the poor little thing? Or did she continue to carry it around? She definitely knew her child was gone, I just think she was so sad that she couldn't leave it.
