Thank You, Jeff your voice has opened my heart again..If anyone is reading this remember the anniversary of his death is on 5/29 lets request his music on the radio lets get his music out to others to discover his amazing GRACE.
He's actually whistling with his vocal chords in the high part not singing in the strictest sense of the word. Mariah Carey does this. However, to be honest it's not important. Let's just appreciate the magic. Some people say they'd like to hear studio versions of these songs but a part of me loves these versions - so pure, raw and some of the sounds he's creates with that four track is amazing like back in NYC. Definitely at his artistic heights with these songs.
this is one of my favourite songs , the disjointed intro him slapping the mic for drums, don't ya wanna let go of your heart or you resist the beds of bliss fortune makes fools of us all.....
@Danerage mmm, I'm not an expert and I can sure be wrong but... Is there any way to prove if is a falsetto or head voice? I feel I can tell the difference by hearing it, but how can I diplomatically / scientifically demonstrate which technique is using?
@haieie Falsetto is a tone of the head voice register. It's produced when there's not connection to the chest voice via the use of mixed voice. A note this high in head voice would have an ungodly amount of strain on it due to the difficulty of maintaining chest connection up there. To this day, no male singer has actually hit a note above C6 without the use of falsetto.
@Danerage This doesn't convince me still. Only because nobody has ever managed to reach it before it doesn't mean that he can't make it as well. Can still be head voice, unless you give me some kind of proofs. But I'll trust you, cause Im not an expert, :) if this is the case, that is a very good falsetto. What a fucking expressive voice!! :)
@Danerage "To this day, no male singer has actually hit a note above C6 without the use of falsetto."
This statement is untrue. Castrati used to be able to hit notes in high registers. There is even a man ALIVE today called Michael Maniaci who can hit a high C in his normal voice.
I said ABOVE C6. Show me a castrati or Michael Maniaci singing a D6 in full-voice. Regardless, their voices are more akin to female voices, and I was mostly referring to the usual voice classifications of males, eg. bass to high tenor. I guess the statement 'no male to this day' is inaccurate, and I was fairly ignorant in stating that. Castrati and males whose larynxs didn't chain during puberty have the potential to hit a C6 and perhaps slightly higher.
@Danerage On the video I linked he says he can get above C6. I really don't imagine it would be that much of a stretch to sing a C#6 if you can already comfortably sing a C6 in a full voice. This argument is pretty pointless though. Can we just call it quits and say we are both right. Men can only sing a C6 exceptional circumstances (like when you do not fully develop at puberty).
There's clearly no audible strain on the note. You don't have to see the veins protruding from his neck firsthand to be able to tell that. This is note isn't full-voice, but that doesn't mean a thing. It doesn't make it any less technically impressive.
@Danerage Chill...I was just joking. Y'all take stuff too personally when it comes to this man...the back and forth technical arguments to "why did he have to die..." mess, ad nauseum!
Chill? I was definitely chill when writing that lol. I don't take it personally, I just correct incorrect statements so no one gets the wrong idea by reading them.
i cant hit above an E5 in falsetto whistle is head voice not falsetto because falsetto is just chest voice pushed up an octave wheras head voice is its own vocal register that can span 2.5 to 3 octaves
@Masamuneblader no you're right now shit singer.. recording songs in his little memphis house he was renting out.. never expecting these recordings to be put out until they were finished... no you're right
@titcdrum Jackass it was a response to the Nicola Sedda comment by Danerage. If you looked at my comment for more than a second before spewing out your garbage you'd notice i even addressed Danerage's statement about the C8. Thank you for being the assuming ass Youtube is known for. I'm a huge fan of Jeff Buckley, amazing haunting voice. Wonder how many other idiots knocked my comment down because of the same mistake -_-
Darrius isn't entirely wrong folks. I do hear The Killers (somewhat) in the delivery and jangling guitars. Let's not forget that Jeff Buckley influenced a lot of bands; although they might not say it.
@MzMeanE I def hear what you are saying about the Killers. I really love them and Brandon Flowers voice...and you just made me aware of the similarities. Thanks!
How did he hit that note? Might have only been one second long but that's sick! It's not only his highest recorded pitch but his technique was solid doing it too!
I can sing an easy Eb6(and up to Eb8 even) in whistle, and up to E6 in a gritty falsetto. No man has ever hit an Eb6 in full-voice, or even a D6 for that matter. People who claim singers have, singers like Daniel Heiman, Chang Yu-Sheng, Hansi Kursch, are confused as to what distinguishes full-voice(head/mixed) from falsetto. This Eb6 is falsetto, and unless your Eb6 is done using the flageolet register, so is yours.
