  • I think what makes the ending look so surprising is that the dog looks like a crappy 80's cartoon character.

  • I really miss drive-in movie theaters. I used to love these little intermission films.

  • Drive-in movie novel The Dare Island Enigma see video book trailer

  • Stunning graphics. Great piece.

  • I used to own a movie theater and I still have a pristine copy of this ad on 35mm film....this is one of my all time favorite ads......Thanks for posting!!!!

  • "Frosty, man, frosty!"

That part when he turned into a dog, wtf?

  • Well, now I'd like a Dr. Pepper.

  • This was still playing at intermission at our drive-in theater in the 70's. I remember it very well, and I was so happy to see the crazy thing again!!

  • lol oonga boonga wonga ice cream

  • This was made by the Keitz & Herndon animation studio in Dallas, circa 1966. They also made the TV series "Jot".

  • @pegbars Great to know who did this and a little thing I saw early Saturday mornings on a station that had to do the Christian kiddie show in town!

  • SERO

  • To mhirtes 12: Yes, that is a sick irony. You'd think they could've saved the screen tower and advertised on it, or, saved the snack bar and used it for storage? At least you've got a high tech building there that does serve a purpose. Far too often these magnificent drive in theaters are demolished to make way for....EMPTY LOTS! That really sucks, in my opinion. A "server farm" is better than an open field, however, an abandoned drive in in tact beats a "server farm" any day. Soybeans?

  • Our local drive-in was torn down to make way for a "server farm" owned by Google (who also own YouTube, where you're seeing this video now).

    Sick irony, huh?

  • which drive-in was it?

  • That Dog looks stupid!

  • No wonder they retired him! :P

  • This is around 50 years old and the film is still good as new!!!!!!

  • what was with that dog?

  • Must've been a mascot for the company back in the 1950s-1960s. I think he was rather short-lived. You can buy T-shirts with the phrase "Frosty man frosty" on them to this day

  • @wiley207 I remember that I got some of those t-shirts wish they brought them back. I like them. Maybe we can talk them into bringing them back u think.

  • @wiley207 I remember that I got some of those t-shirts wish they brought them back. I like them. Maybe we can talk them into bringing them back u think. texasbug04

  • I remember this one from the 50's or real early 60's. The dialog is definitely beat.

  • Dr. Pepper is that old? This movie thing was made before my mom was born! omg.

  • wiley 207---the lion's name was Sid. If you missed bein' a beatnik-hippy. you have my condolences

  • BTW, I don't get what the lion says... "Like, roar, said roar?" What's THAT supposed to mean?

  • I think it's supposed to be beatnik slang. Much like the later hippies and valley girls would use the term "like" as a catch-all phrase. "Like roar, Sid, roar."

  • I guess I'm just an old cat, and not really up with the beatniks and hippies... the exception being Scooby-Doo's resident beatnik, Shaggy!

  • @sideshowcarny: It's obviously a reference to beat culture since the dog/Dr. Pepper gag @ about 1:27 is essentially doing the same thing.

  • I Like The Dog At The End Of The Intermission

  • He must've been a very short-lived spokesdog. That's why we don't see him anymore. They don't even advertise Dr. Pepper by saying "Frosty man, frosty" anymore.

  • How was this racist?

It is not as if the guy was in blackface saying "Mammy!" like Al Jolson and urging you to go to the snackbar.

My family loves this little ad.

  • @siouxweety And it's also not going on multiple talk shows talking about who's the real parent of a baby and starring in big budget movies as comedic roles and exploitation, setting his rights back a hundred years.

  • I literally loled. Oh, dig them crazy beatnicks.

  • I'm 52 & fondly remember these commercials at Drive In movies

anyone remember how cool drive in's were?

18 yr old mom & dad conceived me in 1953 while doing the wild thing hot poky in the back seat of a chevy at the drive in! Guess they didn't go to the snack bar at intermission and instead they conceived me!

Guess they didn't see this commercial! LOL, hah, hah, hah

  • Like, unga munga Dr. Pepper Snack Bar! Frosty man frosty!

  • Chumbawamaba! Child morbid obesity!

  • That was made by some real hepcats!

  • this is BEST film in any movies what I have seen at youtube!!!

  • I don't think it's racist. I can imagine Pixar doing this.

  • It's a very UPA-inspired piece.

  • What is UPA? Never heard of it - I am clueless so please clue me in for my personal edification! thanks!

  • An old theatrical animation studio famous for doing stylish 'toons like Mr. Magoo.

BTW, I LOVE this trailer! I can see how offensive this could be to some people and they had to ban this. BTW, that dog at the end must have been a short-lived mascot for Dr. Pepper.

  • I think so too, there's a couple ads up here of him I assume was used on TV as well, where he comes to the aid of those that "blew their top" and other stressful situations.

  • UPA was founded largely by former animators of the major Hollywood studios. Their minimal cubist style of was hugely influential and still is today. Their best known characters were Mist Magoo and Gerald McBoingBoing.

  • +1 for Gerald McBoingBoing!

I actually find this animation style extremely nostalgic and fun. While I can't blame the culture for evolving and borrowing, too many people are taking from the stiff, comic-book animation style of anime, which borders too heavily on extremes of realism or comedy to be relevant.

  • What is this animation from the same guys? UPA?

  • You're a doofus.

  • Giraffe: Agreed. Westren animation and Japanese animation are equally as good.

  • If I saw that in the theatre, I'd be wondering what exactly was IN the snacks.

  • A great big heaping dose of crap that gives you cancer, heart disease and diabetes Four Major Food Groups Standard American Diet hydrogenated fat salt chemicals crud Snack Bar winds up than movie tix bring healthy yummy munchies in tote bag low fat cheese fruit whole grain crackers
  • Wow, man! I can taste the colors!

  • I love the animation, but that is a really racist ad!

  • No, it isn't

  • Frosty, man, frosty.

  • Yes?
