I had a '59 Impala 2dr Hdtp back in the early '60s. 283 w/ 3 on the column. Loved that car. Used to gather the wife and kids and go for a Sunday drive back then. (gas was 25 cents per gal.). Got 21 mpg on the highway. Would like to have seen some shots showing the driver's view over the hood while going down the road. Had a buddy with the 348 with tri-power (3 dueces) for carburetion. That thing would really fly. Cars were really exciting back then.
Man, that is one sweet Chevy! I had a '59 Impala Sport Sedan (4 door flattop) about 32 years ago that I got for painting a guy's Granada. White with a red and white interior. 235 6 cylinder and 3 on the tree, 64,000 original miles. Unfortunately I sold it before I had a chance to do anything with it.
i love it when you flick the turn signal switch, you hear metal snapping instead of plastic....lovely car and I hope she'll be around for many miles to come =)
awesome car, I have a 59 chev also which I got in 1979 from my grandpa who bought it new. Mine is a three on the tree also, but now power steering or brakes, take good care of her!
YOU HAVE NO FRIKIN IDEA HOW LUCKY YOU ARE TO HAVE THAT CAR!! haha have a look on my profile at my car its a 1959 v8 supercharged vauxhall cresta but I realy want to get a bel air but its abit to expensive as I'm only 16 :L
@weightfeather1 "Spoiled" doesn't begin to describe it. I prefer manual shifting or automatic myself. Unfortunately, most prefer automatic, thus, I got automatic.
@weightfeather1 I think that's the same with floor mounted manual shifting transmissions. Parts wear out. I've owned one vehicle with manual shift and I've driven a few vehicles with manual shift. Why don't people these days don't drive them as often as they did 30 yrs ago?
There's just something about an old car. When I was a high school kid in the 80s, my best friend's dad had a 1955 Buick. Man, we felt like we were on top of the world when we were in that car. Driving these things somehow makes you more patient and relaxed--they make you appreciate life more.
nice 59, I remember when my dad told me that he once bought a 73 cuda 340 2-barrel- 3 speed for $650 back in 79. And sold it back in 87 for 6,000. Not a bad investment.
Wow, you bought a working 1950's car for only $75! It's not only working, it's in pretty much perfect condition...
I quite like the video - this is what youtube's for. You showed exactly what it looks like and how it's like to drive this car. The Chevy Bel Air is one of my favourite cars.
I had a 59 convertable...283 with a 3 speed on the floor though...I gotta say I grew to hate that car...The front end would plow under in sharpe turns, and those damned wings would actually cause the rear end to get loose after 85 miles an hour...But you got a good looking car and ya have treated it well...nice job!..
Looks easy enough to drive. I've always wondered what it's like to drive a manual shift car with the gear shift on the steering column. I've been told over the years that it's difficult to shift.
Very Nice!! I recently bought a '59 Chevy Bel Air 4-door here in Arkansas. I paid $2,000 cash...I wish it was $75.00...lol...it has a straight body but the trunk needs alot of attention, for it is rusted out bad. It runs though.Have you ever entered yours in any car shows? Thumbs up for this video! ;^D
Im a really chevy fan and the 60s was a wonderfull, i think it be better when i was born in the 40s than i can buy me a 59 chevy bel air how yours :D.
Good Job! Turbothrust. Enjoyed the scenic tour of Tybee Island. You missed your calling. You should be a Savannah Tour Guide instead of what you are doing now, but then again I should be doing some else other then what I am doing so who am I to talk.. *laughing* See you at "HOME" Turbothrust348

I like 50's cars. Golden age of cars & the US.
Except for the late 60's which was the golden age of sports cars.
