its jeff beck playing a clapton strat but seriously nice sounding guitar its a shame fender dont put as much effort into their usa standard guitars i bought a standard usa strat a few years ago the quality and electris were so bad i swapped it for an epiphone and after paying 700 pounds for the fender to have to swap it for an epiphone was not a good choice but it would have cost me 300 to fix it
indeed, a lot of cheaper brands deliver better quality for less than half the price, apparantly "fender" at the headstock is enough to compensate that. (don't get me wrong, fender does still make good guitars, but they just cost a lot (while the price of a usa standard is high enough to produce a very good factory guitar without to many bells and whistles while still making profit))
i recently bought an old squier tele for around 100 pounds from enay its the best playing guitar ive tried its black and wite with a maple neck but the strings dont go through the body like a strat so theres more mass and it can play almost anything apart from metal but it has hendrixs sound in it i dont know who set it up but i would never sell it so as you said you could be lucky and get a great cheap guitar or unlucky and pay nearly 1000 pounds for a piece of firewood
@shredmaster100 indeed, I've got a 180pounds (bought new) lc comet (telecaster copy). great guitar, sounds much like the old tele's while I didn't find that sound within the new fender range (well, I did, unfortunately these were custum shops, so starting at about 1800 pounds, just a little to expensive for me). I just don't get why people pay that much for guitars that don't always sound good, for 100 pounds you can "gamble" a bit, but for 1000 I expect good quality control...
dont be so sure my friend bought a new gibson les paul for 1500 pounds and the neck cracked from what gibson told him were extreme temparature changes even though it was in his house all the time and have u seen the new david gilmour strat that looks awesome but at over 2000pounds a little too expensive
oh ok anyway ive just tried a 60,s player strat in my local guitar shop its made in mexico but the pickups are vintage 69 pickups and sound very nice you can get a very hendrixy type tone from them and it feels like a top quality guitar but the music shop only wants 400 pounds for it what do you think is it any good or not
@shredmaster100 possibly :) , you can't judge a guitar without having played it, but some of the mexicans I played were good indeed. I can only say that to get a really authentic hendrixy tone the type of strings you use is very important(besides first and foremost playing technique of course), he used a custom string combination different from standard string packs
ive always wondered how hendrix got such a good tone from a stock 1969 cbs strat u know the one he used at woodstock ive looked up his gear on the internet and all it says was he used it with a fuzz pedal wah wah pedal and octavia pedal and thats it so he must have modified it in more than a few areas because its very rare you see players who can get his tone
@shredmaster100 I don't think he did, people tend to underestimate the effect of subtle differences in playing technique. A couple of times I all of a sudden had the right tone(hendrix tone I mean, not that I'm especially trying to get it), standard strat(mex, from a friend of mine) in a normal amp, don't now why. If I pick up the same guitar the other day it's gone again :p , guitars and gear make a little bit of difference but in the end it's still about how you make the string vibrate
yeah the other thing ive noticed is temperature makes a difference to the way a guitar plays if i leave my guitar in a cold room it plays awfull but if left in a warm room it sounds great so it must be hard for professional players if they need to get the same tone every night
juste one word, i really like the way you play, i listen you since 1 year, but if i want 1 thing, it's listen you playing with a strat with you're brownface vibroverb, but without any effects, just to hear the best amp ever made with a good player !perhaps it's yet done ! but you have made so many videos !! i didn't know all! any way you're one of the most interesting player in the tube , thanks for all the pleasure you gave me
I have THE question ... EJ or EC ? I'm gonna buy one or the other in the next weeks and I can't set my mind ... I will not be able to try them out unfortunately ... I know it's a matter of taste ... I read every contradictions on those two on the internet ... I'm currently going for the EC for the mid boost that supposedly gives more gain/humbucking sound ... Just want to get your opinion since you own all of these great guitars !
@olystercrowley I had both. The EJ is more of an older, traditional sound, the EC a more modern clean sound. I didn't like the EJ feel, very light, just didn't work for me and I sold it after 3 mths. What it does, it does well, but the EC is more versatile, you can get a lot of different sounds from it and to me if feels like a guitar. The EC is the guitar I play 95% of the time and my other strats, tele's and a Les Paul barely get a run, except when I'm after an exact sound that the EC can't do
@triamp9 I'm not talking cobblers... i've got this guitar... absolutely nice to make rock and hard rock.... absolutely ugly to make blues and rythm blues, especially when it's plugged straight into the amp (without any pedal) ... so i've had to change all the pickups...
Horses for courses I guess! I have 2 Clapton Strats, both with the vintage noiseless pick-ups and I love them. I did fit one with the Lace sensors but went back to the VNs. I run a MKIV Boogie and the amp loves these particular pick-ups and the mid-boost and TBX give me loads of versatility. As for them being 'lifeless' we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I get loads of bounce and sparkle with them.
@Redmar85 I ordered a custom shop Clapton Strat but was very dissapointed and now have a 65 Relic from the custom shop which I find way better for many tones such as Gilmour, Knopfler, funk, blues and jazz....I am still mystified as to why people like the Clapton.
@Zelmquist personaly i own a EC strat, can recommend it. If your into clean mid pickup sounds for lets say Dire Straits go for the MK strat, have played it and that will the next to buy. but for sheer versability go for the EC i would buy it first again. But either way the are both very good! In fact the ones if played, played better then some custom fender en gibsons ! You really sense that the people making these two ''standard'' artist models really love to make en play them ;)
Was ist denn jetzt der genaue Unterschied zwichen der Standard Clapton hier und der Custom Shop Version? ich meine ausser dem Preis?.....und nebenbei wie immer ein gutes Video

CJTW200 7 months ago
@CJTW200 The price ! : o ... I mean, there are lot of little difference that make the CS version better !
loggiayo 7 months ago
@CJTW200 The woods. This one has standardad woods and the Custom Shop is built with premium aged woods.
Also, it's crafted by the same people that crafted Clapton's (yes it most likely counts for the price as well)
