There was a small stainless steel feature that provided a little water movement. It was there as a memorial to a pupil who had died. As the schools intention was to use the pond as a wildlife study area, the less the water was disturbed, the better. There were also lilies put in whos leaves would die off near a fountain. Aeration for a fish pond was not needed as there was never going to be any fish as they would eat the creatures that the children hoped to observe. It does need a hibernaculum.
Very nicely done , finished look is great and expertly laid liner in that shape pond , I see you use mortar inside but guess it does not mater a small amount in that type of natural pond , great job keep them coming
Usually the liner is simple to work out, its just the length + (maximum depth x 2) and width + (maximum depth x 2). On a small to medium pond I would allow approx 1' (30cm) overlap on all sides and on a large pond I would allow 1m on all sides. The music is by Ian Brown from the 'Unfinished monkey business' album. Track is 'Upside down'.
No fish as its meant to be a wildlife pond. I have suggested putting logpiles / rockery and dense planting around edges of pond to house amphibians, as we found none at all when draining the pond. The sheets are polyester underlay. Normally it would be put across the whole pond, but it already had two layers of good underlay under the liner so we only needed new underlay in parts we cut to remove stones. No medium in bottom of pond - plants are potted in compost.
Nice job, wished you were in usa, as have large pond myself, and need to work on it soon. Just lazy due to cold weather, but weather is changing fast, and all my excuses will be gone. Last fall I was out of country on install, and our pond ran out of oxygen, lost 37 large Koi, very sad.
I also lost alot of fish a couple of years ago. We had a family of otters visit the pond and killed all the koi, bream, orfe etc. Now its fenced off and electrified. Man, I could have shot them (but didn't). It guts you when you grow them up and they get killed.
It was at Gosforth Central Middle School. The area as quite well done, but there was nowhere for amphibians to live outside the pond, hence we found none at all (first time ever) when we drained the pond.

Where is the aeration. I would have rocked the bog and separated the bog from the pond and added a fountain in the center .

When doing repairs for other landscapers, I always seem to get the jobs where the ponds are shaped like bananas. What a waste of liner!
pondguru 2 years ago
must be a pig to work out how much liner you need,
great music who is it ?

As this was a banana shape pond I had to allow about 3m more than usual on the length to allow for the folds.

Awesome! Will there be koi in the pond too? What are the white sheets you used and what kind of soil medium did you use for the bottom of the pond?
