  • that nikki is really hot, got a body of a godess, btw i missd the whole bird thing :)

  • We looked into buying one of these birds from a very respectable breeder/hand-raiser in St Louis MO a couple years ago. She was asking $1200 which is a decent price for one. You have to ask so many questions and do lots of research and really get to know folks to find someone reputable. There was one breeder who did not hand feed the babies right and just had their bills fixed by a vet; which is sadly temporary. The birds are scissor billed for life and most folks who just buy a bird from anyon

  • WOW she is really big

  • What you fail to understand is that only a few parrot species can be identified by coloration. For the most part, you either DNA sex them (blood exam) or you surgically sex them (go inside and take a look). Consequently, owners often fail to "guess" the correct sex of their birds. Sometimes its years later when a presumed male lays and egg and then everyone says "Wow, its a hen!" Only the birds know for sure without the tests.

  • Do they bite? And what is their tolerance level?

  • @aahmedusama00 /All birds will bite on occasion. Most won't bite often unless they are provoked. I had 12 larger parrots and could handle all of them all of the time with very few bites a year. I would say less than 10 bites total a year. My macaws were the least likely to bite in my flock. As a rule, the bigger the bird, the less likely they are to bite. They are more confident.

  • @parrotland u get big wounds if they bite u?

  • @aahmedusama00 All parrots are different and it really depends on how they're raised. The key is respect and keeping them mentally healthy by trick training them and using foraging toys as well as healthy food. Make sure to never compare the bird you want to someone pet bird because it may be completely different :)

  • GRINGOS HIJOS DE PERRA NUNCA TENDRAN LA RIQUESA QUE TIENE SUR AMERICA Y CENTRO AMERICA

  • @Colombianparadisee Again with the vulgar language? Keep in mind my friend that these " BITCH GRINGOS " as you call our children, probably earn more in weekly allowance than you do all year. You may live in a beautiful country but it is too bad that people like you make it soo ugly.

  • @Colombianparadisee y tu non dejas de ser resentido social eh

  • omg.... i want one!!!

  • its a boy and his name is tinkerbell

  • CUTE

  • That's such a beautiful bird.

  • cool!!!!!!!!! how much work are they???? and say you had a person staying at home all day how had a one hour lunch break and finished work at six o clock pm and started at 9am would that be okay for keeping a Mcaw???? Blue and Gold??

  • how much do parrots cost?

  • Just a thought, you could try giving nikki a treat when she does what you ask her to, that way shes more likely to play on cue :) beautiful bird tho, wish i had one :(

  • how would macaws get along with cats\dogs

  • I have 3 dogs and none of them have ever harmed any bird here. In fact, they protect them. It should be noted, however, that all of my dogs are herding dogs (2 Pembroke Welsh corgis and an Aussie shepherd). I would be very careful with any "bird dog", terrier or sight hound.

  • if you're asking that, then you're months of research and good long hard thought from being ready to own one. And to answer the question, cats have a bacteria in their teeth and claws that can be deadly to birds. They like to play with dogs and dogs like to play back, a larger dog can accidentally injure the bird though, and a smaller dog can be injured by the bird

  • I have an Orange Winged Amazon and I saves 750 dollars for it! It's sad because it only likes my father, no matter how much time and what good treats I give him.. I'm only 11!

  • thats 1 bigass bird

  • No, she is actually a medium sized macaw. The big ones are Greenwings, Hys and Buffons.

  • hes very pretty I want one but they are so expensive. and.. I am only 10 lol

  • Wow that's a fair and decent price here in chicago there expensive and the breeder wants 1500 to 1600 hundred dollars for the bird.

  • hes a cutie, reminds me of Jacko, a macaw i used to look after when i worked in a pet shop, i wanted to take him home when the store closed but the store owners woundnt let me, i still miss him now but we became great pals :)

  • holy crap that bird is big

  • i love that name nikki XD

  • Adorable !

  • cute i have a african grey congo its name is coco

  • Can birds be friendly? If so, how can you train them. I am thinking about purchasing a bird when I graduate next year.

    Thanks

  • I'm no expert but have been around - and shared living spaces with - a number of birds.

Most birds bond with at least one of their primary caretakers. The more they are socialized (assuming they want to be) the better they will be with outsiders.

They are smart, social, and gregarious by nature.

They can also be shy and defensive or aggressive around strangers, and can become jealous of interlopers.

Depending on their size they can also be rather dangerous.

  • They typically are friendly, some more so than others, but generally only with people they know.

They can also be defensive or nasty towards people they perceive as a threat.

If a bird bonds strongly with a human of the opposite gender, they can become jealous of humans of the same gender (I've experienced this.)

Your best bet would be to find some owners, a reputable pet shop that specializes in birds, or some kind of club or something, and educate yourself and so on.

  • Tink was originally purchased for $900 in Maryland from a pet store. Usually, they sell for $1100 in the same area. This particular bird had been in the store for way too long.

  • @parrotland Was it born in captivity? Beautiful bird!

  • how much was that parrot?
