Well i am a DBZ fan... and i like Budokai 3, it was my favorite (although I only got a taste of Tenkaichi 3, but it seemed cool), but they are always coming out w/new games... should i just wait for the next installment?
horrible game, lack of characters, and i hate the mehcanics, budokai 3 has the best gameplay mechanics but budokai tenkaichi 3 a shit load a characters, i'd rather play the ps2 versions of dbz games 100 times better than the ps3

i gotta say i disagree with ign, i would have rated this lower, the battles are repetitive , punch punch punch punch quicktime event, hold strong attack, quick time event. it seems the only reason they gave this a good rating is because it has good graphics, i honestly give boudokai 3 a better rating than this game. graphics in boudokai 3 were pretty friggin good, but gameplay made it better. dbz ultimate tenkaichi offers the same gameplay no matter what fight you do, continued in next comment
@bonkuraysan the only time gameplay becomes different is when you fight a giant mob, then it becomes a dodge-fest where you dodge a few attacks, wait for a specific moment to attack then after a while did a quick time event. in boudokai 3 you had a free combat system where you can Ki blast and punch at any time. i give this game a 5/10 for poorly done gameplay. graphics are nice, but flashiness does not make a good game. not to mention the rpg lvling system is just to make the game feel longer.
The should make a dbz game with open world style and kind of a mixture of prototype and infamous that I would def buy I'm sick of the way they make dbz games

That's a dissapointment since the other games would have 70+ or even 100+, Plus the story is the same thing as ever just with a Hero mode, and the game is also lacking in some fights in the series.

I think this should be a series and make Ultimate Tenkaichi 2. RB3 would be pretty cool too but I'd like to see where this is going. This would have truly been the ultimate DBZ game if there would have been: Better fighitng system, every character would do different combos, at least the amount of characters RB2 had, and some of the in game cutscenes ( like vegeta being saved by SS2 Gohan ) could have been made better. But remember how much BT1 sucked? And then there was BT2 that kicked ass!

@savagetoons Well I haven't personally played it but to me this game looks like a lot fun and cool. What I've heard is that this game is worth at least checking out but if you're gonna buy it, I recommend to get it as cheap as possible.

RB2 got a low score because it lacked a story mode that we have played through countless times. It also lacked various game modes...but the combat improved, and the graphics (although manga style graphics aren't bad). I'm not defending RB2, I just say it's a step up from this bullshit game

i think that if they had spent more time on this game by adding more depth to the fighting and the character creation. as well as adding more characters and refining the story to where the walls of text would not have been necessary then this would have been one of the best dragon ball z games ever.
Personal raging blast 2 is alot better than this crap the only this game has over raging blast 2 is the character creation but that's crappy too. So I'd rather stick with raging blast 2 they should've just created a Raging blast 3
Tenkaichi 3 is still champion. Of ALL fighting games. This game only has 41 characters. This is probably the only time IGN has been correct. Although if you pay attention and know the show, you can tell every character has their own moves and styles, mostly anyway.
Its still fun and creation is a good new addition, but fairly limited.
It looks cool, but I like Budokai Tenkaichi 3 better b/c it has more characters. I was wishing that the 4th installment will have more characters from Dragonball, DBZ movies, lil more DBZ, & Dragonball GT in the next Tenkaichi game. This game only has 62 characters, BT3 has 86. I'm still wishing for Tenkaichi 4...I know it's been years I've waited, but but I can still wait.
the combat in this game sucks all it is is one big quick time event, its really not that good and it could follow the story better. I would like a DBZ game where they go from dragon ball all the way up to GT and have all the characters in between and it follows the story closely. With an RPG leveling up system where u can train your fighter and a deep character creater.
@nickd11996 I agree, I like Tenkaichi 3 more. It has 86 characters, but wished it had almost everyone from the Show and Movies. For many years, I couldn't wait for Tenkaichi 4 that will have more characters. When this came, I thought it was finally gonna be the one I was looking forward to play. But I was wrong, it's the same shit as Burst Limit. It only has 62 characters and lil part of DBZ, no characters from Dragonball, more DBZ & movies, and DBGT. It shouldn't be called Tenkaichi at all.
the game looks great... but I prefer the gameplay used in B3 and BT3. So I probably won't pick this game up any time soon just because it's just a constant game of chance. If I do get it, I'll probably buy it used.

The graphics look great, and i've been a HUGE fan of the fighting games, im actually playing budokai 3 right now, but I was wondering how this game would turn out, thinking it'd be the ULTIMATE (hence title lol) dragon ball z game to date, it appears it may be pretty disappointing... this new fighting style is horrible imo, i liked the old button mashing, and old fighting style that games like budokai tenkaichi 3 had. this version isn't as fun as its predecessors.
I need to adress something that I don't think is being talked about. Its something that they neglect in every DBZ game ever made. Why have they not made a game where the original Japanese Soundtrack or the American Soundtrack can be used as the BGM. It's not that big of a deal or anything but I know I'm not the only one that doesn't think picking Vegeta and having his American Soundtrack theme Hells Bells playing in the background would be badass.

wait wait WHAT?! This is a fighting game is it not? If the fighting is repetitive then that means that the fighting is NOT fun so that takes out a big chunk of the score like 4/5 of it. Just saying the combat "Looks beautiful" does not make the score that high I have played games that look like shit but play amazing so NO just NO just saying it's beautiful is like saying "This poison has such a nice color I shall drink this and possibly die but who cares it looks pretty." I think this should be a series and make Ultimate Tenkaichi 2. RB3 would be pretty cool too but I'd like to see where this is going. This would have truly been the ultimate DBZ game if there would have been: Better fighitng system, every character would do different combos, at least the amount of characters RB2 had, and some of the in game cutscenes ( like vegeta being saved by SS2 Gohan ) could have been made better. But remember how much BT1 sucked? And then there was BT2 that kicked ass!

@hardcoreLazors I think Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 1 is the best of the tenkaichi series. It has a great fighting system, good graphics, an awsome story mode and a nice selection of characters. I'm almost afraid to get ultimate tenkaichi, because of all the negative feedback it has recieved. Do you think ultimate tenkaichi is worth buying?

@DBZAOTA482 First Off IGN is less critical than Gamespot, because Gamespot gave this game a TERRIBLE score....and it's only fair. This game has less characters, less fighting, just less in general. RB2 got a low score because it lacked a story mode that we have played through countless times. It also lacked various game modes...but the combat improved, and the graphics (although manga style graphics aren't bad). I'm not defending RB2, I just say it's a step up from this bullshit game

Tenkaichi 3 is still champion. Of ALL fighting games. This game only has 41 characters. This is probably the only time IGN has been correct. Although if you pay attention and know the show, you can tell every character has their own moves and styles, mostly anyway.
Its still fun and creation is a good new addition, but fairly limited.

It looks cool, but I like Budokai Tenkaichi 3 better b/c it has more characters. I was wishing that the 4th installment will have more characters from Dragonball, DBZ movies, lil more DBZ, & Dragonball GT in the next Tenkaichi game. This game only has 62 characters, BT3 has 86. I'm still wishing for Tenkaichi 4...I know it's been years I've waited, but but I can still wait.

the combat in this game sucks all it is is one big quick time event, its really not that good and it could follow the story better. I would like a DBZ game where they go from dragon ball all the way up to GT and have all the characters in between and it follows the story closely. With an RPG leveling up system where u can train your fighter and a deep character creater.

For many years, I couldn't wait for Tenkaichi 4 that will have more characters. When this came, I thought it was finally gonna be the one I was looking forward to play. But I was wrong, it's the same shit as Burst Limit. It only has 62 characters and lil part of DBZ, no characters from Dragonball, more DBZ & movies, and DBGT. It shouldn't be called Tenkaichi at all.

I need to adress something that I don't think is being talked about. Its something that they neglect in every DBZ game ever made. Why have they not made a game where the original Japanese Soundtrack or the American Soundtrack can be used as the BGM. It's not that big of a deal or anything but I know I'm not the only one that doesn't think picking Vegeta and having his American Soundtrack theme Hells Bells playing in the background would be badass.
