Police officers put their lives on the line every time they answer a call like that one. They deserve our respect and admiration.

How is investigating a call harassment?
He went to the house because he was told to. The cop didnt know if he would find a black guy there. For all he knew he could have been any colour. But sadly for him he got there to have some old black guy yelling at him that he is a racist. What a joke!

Gates was uncooporative and baligerant. the real question is, why would you start calling a policeman a racist when he shows up to protect your property from a potential burglary. If I had to break into my own home and the police arrived, I be grateful that they were investigating why someone was forcing an entry into my home. the police had to establish gates identity and gates made a racial issue of it. He deserved to be arrested and he sould be charged

The president is right. The cop did act stupidly. He did not have to arrest the man in his home after he found out that the professor was in his home. When he found out that he was in his home, he should not have arrested him. The president said nothing to apologize about. He is right. Blacks are being stopped disproportionally. There is race profile and race is a factor in the society. The president is a black man. He knows the reality. I would loose respect for him if he apologizes.

because he was answering a burglary call. Protecting Gates property from someone breaking in, why would he arrest the home owner when his whole reason for going there was to protect him. Its called common sense.

Henry Gates is just one more example of how African Americans are an emotional race. I know this from personal experience. I have many tight black friends. I have learned clearly over the years that more often then not blacks are very emotional and usually react emotionally rather than logically. Given the same circumstances most whites react with logic. Folks like Sharpton continue to sail the slave ship into the new Century condemning Blacks to their emotional roller coaster of life! SAD!

Imagine what it does to the mind of a man to realize that he can be a Harvard Professor and get arrested in his own home? What would it mean to any of us to get home and be arrested in your own home? Where are you safe then? If a person cannot feel safe in their own country as a wealthy, Harvard professor what should be done? Gates says it happened because he is black! Now, will this Harvard professor be called a reverse racist? Maybe a racist country with a black president is too deep for US?

He was arrested for disorderly conduct. It's the law. The police obeyed it. They did their job. If anyone has a problem with it, that clearly isnt the ONLY problem they have.

Maybe neither the Professor nor the cop is wrong here. Maybe standard operating procedures (SOP) are at fault. If I was the cop, I would have shut up, and been civil, explaining why I was there, ask if there was anyone else in the house, ask if hes safe, convince myself hes not in danger, apologize for the inconvenience and leave him with an impression that would last-- that the local police are prompt, courteous, protecting his interest and interested in his welfare. But, thats not SOP.
