  • Yeah, the EU2000i is simply amazing (I have one)... I am really surprised how well it works. I ran my fridge (a modern one that is efficient as well, startup around 500VA and runs around 200VA ... VA is almost like watts but without the power factor which is almost 1) and electric heater (900W power factor of 1.0 = 900VA) during a power outage of almost two days.

A modern 5000BTU AC doesn't phase me on bit. It's probably about 500VA start and 350VA running (by listening to the engine RPM)

  • I am using my Honda EU1000 (<----that's right 1000) to run an 8,000BTU window type A/C

  • Well if you have two AC units that each draw a continuous 1,800 watts (1,800 watts is 15 amps) that means you're drawing 3,600 (30 amps) just on them your lathe is 1,200 (10 amps) so that's a total of 4,800 watts (40 amps) continuously plus your lights. Very close to your generators 5,000 watt rating, I would suggest either just run on AC or upgrade your generator for more headroom.

  • I just had the complete set up out & set up for the first time somce last year last Thursday. The power went out due to a storm & everything ran fine though I had no need for the A/C or the washer this time around.

  • So...important question...will the EU2000i start the A/C when idle'd down on its economy mode setting?

  • Yes, I have a pair running a 9,000btu split a/c unit, my fridge, 19" tv, laptop, satelite receiver, two 18" standing fans, wireless modem, wireless router, washing machine, water pump & one 2 tube T8 light fixture. All this with eco mode on to help conserve gas as well as keep it quiet. I also have the parallel wiring kit, extended run 6 gallon duel fuel system & a generator transfer panel to connect it to my house during power outages. I have all this strapped to a dolly making it portable.

  • MrNightro

Would love to see a video of your set up. It's exactly what I've been thinking about getting, the parallel cables and the 6 gallon tank and all.

  • Ok, I'll it will have to wait until next weekend before I can film it then I'll post it online sometime through the following week. It's raining outside today with the weather doesn't look like it's going to ease up anytime soon & I don't want to get my camera wet.

  • That's be much appreciated.

  • so you have 2 2k's running all that shit? im calling bullshit

  • TV= 82 watts Sat Reciever= 12 watts Fans= 1/2 amp each Split A/C= 5 amps laptop= 3 amps water pump= 8 amps light fixture= 34watts Router= 1/2 amp Modem= 1/2 amp Washer= 5 amps (A/C is off to leave extra headroom of the water pumps surge draw) So roughly 24.5 amps total draw, 4kw = 33.33 amps so there is still nearly 9 amps headroom left over. I have been a licensed electrician for 18 years & have done many residential, commercial & industrial generator installs.
  • ok amps dont matter how bout the watts.i know the watts are over 2000 for the ac. cuz i have 2 units in my shed

  • Ohms law, amps do matter & is directly related to watts (simple maths will get you from one to the other). You have two AC units in your shed, do you have mines? So how can you tell me what is draws? Take an actual reading with a multimeter & see the actual power draw of an energy efficient split AC unit. You'll find that while the motor surge is high (& very brief) the continuous draw is actually pretty low.

  • oh ok yeah that made perfect sense.um mine draws 1800 continuous at 8.7 amps and has a 3250 surge.but mine are 10000 btus not that much bigger than yours.and i have a 5000 diesel gen set and it barks when both are running with the lathe powered up.

  • Motors are one of the highest stresses you can put on a generator. You have three going (two AC units & a lathe) so when those surge draws kick in from each motor you're exceeding the rating of your Generator. Another thing to look at is your generator 5000 continuous or is that a peak rating?

  • its 8500 starting

  • Are your AC units 220v or 110v? What is the draw of your lathe? do you have anything else on the generator such as lights or other power tools?

  • lights but the same ones you got.the lathe is only 1200 watts

  • oh and the ac is 120

  • thank you for posting this video. wonder how much BTU is that ac unit?

  • it's a small one, only 5000 BTU. I bought it at target last year for 89.95. My plan is to use this to keep my basement rec room cool in the event of an extended power outage. I'm considering buying a larger portable AC 8000 BTU or so.

For those who wonder what this video is about- The big concern is whether the EU2000 can handle the start up load of an AC unit. The Honda started this little unit just fine. It's a great little generator.

  • @metrowash but will it handle the startup in eco mode?

  • @metrowash For an 8000 BTU A/C I recommend the Delonghi NF-170. I have one, and it is very good

  • thank you that's what i need it to know if it will power the 5000 btu, I'm trying to install it in my semi truck so i don't have to run this 14 liter engine to stay cool over night. thx again

  • Global warming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you look in the other videos, this one guy powers his whole house with it.

  • I have a 5200 air unit in the back window of my van and also have a Honda2000. I did run it a few weeks ago to power the air for about 3 hours with the air on power save mode and then all night running a small fan for another 8 or 9 hours after the first 3 of the one gallon of gas with the Honda set on economy mode.

I do recommend for anyone that has one running outside to lock it down somehow as they can be a target for the opportunist thief.
