  • good on for putting up a nice lesson....one thing though, when someone is really new to the instrument, it is typically a good idea to hold off from alternate picking, going to fast to early will result in teaching yourself bad habits that will hinder your playing down the road.

  • thanks for this, it looks easy enough for me (guitar nub) to grasp. Much appreciated!

  • Thanks for all the lessons! They are great! I'm very new to guitar, but I have to learn this fast bluegrass stuff, because that's what all my pickin buddies play. I need to work on a lot to be able to sit with them and I thank you for giving me a good foundation to work from. Man, you can be fast when you want to be! Keep up the good work!!!

  • Thanks for your efforts and the time you take to help other people your videos are really well done keep it up lots of people will benefit

  • Thats great, always looking for new exercises, that spider one is a fun one! Thankyou

    Lewis

  • dang you're beautiful girl.. and you play guitar! you really can have your cake and eat it too.. keep playing!

  • Thanks for posting this. I am trying to get beyond the begining feeling on my guitar.

    This exercise should be helpful!

  • heya, you should try a few different ways for going up the scales, it also helps

  • thanks for the lesson. i've seen a few of your videos on guitar now and really like them. keep up the good work. God bless.

  • ooh, i've never seen that second exercise!

  • Hello,I play in a band and the second exercise you played we have in one of our originals and it does sound really cool. Thanks ,Edward

  • message from holland here. I love your video's! Do you have more exercises?

  • These exercises are well known. And they truly work

  • Oh thanks. I'll learn the second one.

My cousin thinks girls can't be as good as guys at guitars... I think she's making up excuses. XD

  • guys tend to be better cuz more guys play guitar so theres a bigger chance but it doesnt matter unless your fingers are just too small :]

  • More girls should learn the guitar. :D

  • they do sound cool, there has got to be some scale to that.thanx for the tip

  • Maybe I have them mixed up! Don't take my word for it ;) You're welcome :)

  • Thank youuu :D

  • You're welcome :)

  • very nice. thanks

  • You're welcome, thanks :D

  • john petrucci had the same type of exercises in his instructional video

  • They must be common exercises, I learned them from a friend who plays the electric guitar very fast - I guess what you call shredding? Anyhow, thanks for letting me know.

  • You're welcome :D

  • very cool gonna give it a try

  • Thanks. It is a great finger exercise. Just be careful not to stress your fingers too much. Take breaks and only push as hard as you need to to keep the string from buzzing. I'm just saying that because I'm suffering not from overpractice but *wrong* practice!

  • i would suggesting turning the first exercise into an actual chromatic scale

  • Yes, you can easily do that by sliding one of your fingers up a fret on each string (while ascending) or down a fret (while descending.

  • and raising the starting point for the 2 high strings by 1 fret!

  • Yup :) Thanks for coming by and suggesting that.

  • thanks

  • You're welcome!

  • Are you in seventh position for these exercises? Please post more like this. Almost all the folks offering lessons on youtube are neglecting skillbuilding exercises like this. Not a bad niche to fill, especially with your pleasant manner--Robert

  • I'm not sure where I'm at, I do it at all frets. Thanks for the comment.

  • Very good demo of these exercises. I can use that. Talk about barriers to speed, pick angle and depth. Thanks for the contribution.

  • You're welcome. I'll be on the road just a few more days and then hopefully I'll be in an environment where I can work on some lesson videos.

  • how bout a song next time...ginseng sullivan? how about tennessee stud?? i want to see more bluegrass chicks like yourself pickin on youtube...keep it up!

  • Thanks for the comment. Maybe next time I will sing a song or two, I just need to make sure the audio doesn't really stink. My voice is poor enough that it doesn't need bad audio complicating things :D

  • These are good left hand exercises, but more importantly build right and left hand coordination so you can catch those notes cleanly while picking. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks for the comment. Yes, right/left hand coordination is so important! I noticed just going up and down on one string with all four fingers, trying to keep them very close to the fingerboard, is a challenge as well that helps build coordination.
