It's funny how differences in winning margins mean different things. When Sunline won the Cox by 7 lengths, it showed what a champ she was. Yet when Bonecrusher won this by a teeny tiny nose, it also showed what a champ he was, far more than say his stomping of the opposition in the Caulfield Stakes.
There is another call of this race, not sure if it was Bill Collins or not, but it is the best call of this race, bryan martin is a great caller also.
I agree with nswmoose, this is one of the worst calls of a great win I've ever heard! I know I'm biased because I loved Bonecrusher as a kid Iike he was my own, but this was his gutsiest win IMHO, even better than the AJC Derby.
Tigerrish, Bryan Martin was a gifted and highly descriptive commentator and your comment is ignorant in the extreme. Use your brain for a minute and consider would they let Martin be such a prominent caller for such a long time? Of course not.
Think we're just spoilt with the callers we have in this country. There are so many good ones that when there's a guy who sounds bland like this guy we think he's hopeless. Give me Greg Miles any day, great judge of how they're travelling. :))
Have you heard Bill Collins call this race. When you do you'll think Greg Miles is a hack. Actually, lately his calls have been very ordinary. Maybe this is why he's retiring.Bill Collins 1, Johnny Tapp 2
Think you might have mistaken Miles for Brian Martin, he has just retired and he was ordinary, Miles is pretty accurate and well respected. Tapp was good, but he did occasionally go overboard, he made Dane Ripper sound like a second rate hack in the '97 Cox plate, but he was good. Id have John Russell high up, very smooth caller and never got tongue tied
ahh, its cool thought you might have been. Martin was an average caller. And Miles did a great call of Lonhro's Aust Cup and Octagonal's as well. And no arguement here about the late Bill Collins, he was first class, alot of my vids on here have some great calls by him too.
Shocking call of the race given what Bonecrusher did giving the great At Talaq two lengths and swamping him right on the post - and this after he nearly died in Japan. One of the gutsiest wins by that great Kiwi. There is a better call of this race on the Bonecrusher segment of the "Turf Heroes" DVD.
Frank O'Brien is an awesome caller
shut up

Frank O'Bryan was a fantastic racecaller and called the races at Flemington for years....and he called BONECRUSHER first.

meaning would they let Martin be such a big-time caller for years if he were so ordinary as you put it. Answer again is a resounding NO.

I have some of his old Melbourne Cup calls...he has absolutely no emotion and it drives me insane...
I have his call of Empire Rose's extremely narrow win over Natski in 1988...and he says it with no emotion...
He isn't good at all
