This shows what Russian soldiers are capable of with competent officers, who share the hardships with his troops and never asks his soldiers to do something he wouldnt do himself. As an American vet who has been in combat, I can say that soldiers will run through a brick wall for officers who inspire, just so they wont let them down. Its as true for the Russian soldiers as it is for American soldiers.

mostly untrained conscripts formed into new units. some specops were just sent there so they had to fight together with infantry. That general had an advantage - he had his own recon unit he personally trained - that unit did a great job.

It's not even a little similar. In the Chechyan wars both sides took alot of cassualties, especially in the battle of graony. war in iraq was one sided the whole time, US stomped the iraq army with few cassualties, while russia losts thousands. over 2,000 dead russians in one night in grozny. How is that even a little similar?

About 2000 for a one night in Grozny, this isn't true. The most bloodiest opperation in Chechnya for russians it was a protect of 776 high when for a one night 84 marines was killed and it was not a Grozny.

2. Chechen fighters also commit abuses against civilians, but neither on the same scale nor with the same intensity as Russian forces.
