Then, gentrification came. Buildings got renovated and the crime rate fell. Sounds good? The poor got kicked out and now those apts. sell for over a $ million and only yuppies and the rich can afford to live there. It's a double-edged sword.

Many fires were the result of owner initiated arson. Many broken windows were the result of scavengers of building materials (both black and white). Some of the illegal dumping comes from the suburbs (white suburbia). You apparently haven't met many of our finest grafitti artists: white again. So why do you hate so much?

I live in the next neighborhood up, Midtown. It is truely a beautiful and eclectic neighborhood. I can't wait until they finish w/the Dequindre Cut (the last photos w/the grafitti). It will be an awesome walkway. As for the water, this is the only city where I've enjoyed the tap water (I am an army brat). It is some of the cleanest in the world. The GM building is mostly the headquarters for our police. The RenCen houses GM, and both rent out office space. Hope this helps.

The downtown area is really nice, but there's basically a ring of ghetto around it. When you go more outside, you get some of the nicest suburbs in the country. Affordable too. Michigan as a whole is nice because of the nature, especially the west coast. Beaches of lake MI are amazing. I would rather live in Detroit than LA for example, where the downtown is totally dead, polluted, and the traffic is always terrible. Chicago is fucking beautiful, thats a whole another story though.
